Christmas Time in Eldon-Part 1

Christmas Time in Eldon-Part 1

Finals week is done but the Mexico Lady Bulldogs are not going to stop working.  After wrestling earlier week late into the night, they were able to recharge and regroup.  They traveled down to Eldon who’s hosting their Lady Mustang Christmas Bash.  This year Eldon chose to expand this to a 2-day event to give more ladies the opportunity to get some matches in before Christmas.  After talking with Coach Senor briefly last night, he is confident that the girls who were out on Wednesday should be good to go for the weekend.

Over half of these teams are District opponents (some of them Mexico saw earlier in the week at Blair Oaks), including NCMC rival Fulton.  There will be some opportunities for some grudge matches for several of the Lady Bulldogs.  For most of these ladies, it will be their first multi-day tournament opportunity.  After weigh-ins and warmups on Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs started with pool play.  Below are the results from the first few rounds of Day 1 of the tournament.

After day 1 and three rounds of pool play, the Lady Bulldogs as a team sit in 6th place with 24.5 points.  Pool play is done for some of these ladies, due to lower numbers in their weight classes and those Lady Bulldogs (Katie Bowen, Kaylynn Pehle, and Alizabeth Welch)  have been placed into their brackets.  Pool play will finish up for the larger brackets and then they will roll into bracket play immediately after.  The writer found out that several of the girls who were scheduled to compete for this weekend including girls at 100, 120, and 159 did not make the trip with the team due to illness.  So overall, considering they are down three scoring teammates, the Lady Bulldogs are holding their own.
