A youthful look for 2023-24 season at Center HS

Center High School wrestling fans should bring a pen and notepad with them when going to see the Yellowjackets compete this season. New team members and three new assistant coaches are just a few reasons why.

14 Girls reported to practice on Monday, Oct. 30th the first day Girls Wrestling teams were allowed to practice. Head Coach Charles Misher is expecting 20-25 team members this year. Boys wrestling team began practice for the season on Monday, Nov. 6th where eventually 30 team members are expected to compete.

Coach Misher believes “Its a rebuilding year”. Last year’s Seniors “Left a good foundation, just missing experience”. Misher adds he is “excited to see the underclassmen”. The season begins when Center opens up with a quad on Wednesday November 29th. Center will serve as host to Lafayette, Guadalupe Center and Ruskin. Competition inside the CHS Gymnasium begins at 5:30pm.

Some names to remember this season when watching the Center Girls wrestling team include Davion Pearson who is a Junior competing at the 113 weight class. Misher states the team will “Lean on her, will set the tone”. Another Yellowjacket to look out for is Lilly Damiano who is back for her third year of High School Wrestling. Damiano will be competing at 125.

In addition to some new names to learn on the Mats Center fans will see new faces coaching them. Joining Coach Misher this season on the Yellowjacket coaching staff is assistants Richard Franco, Sayfuallah Wandix and Ali Lopez. The entire coaching staff is looking forward this season to working with a youthful but excited group of Yellowjackets.
