The last major freestyle tournament this spring took place last Saturday at Fort Osage High School.
The tournament, which is run by GroWrestling, had a total of 434 wrestlers compete and included three kids divisions, a high school 16-and-under (cadet), high school girls and a high school junior divisions.
Brothers Tyler and Jordan Bell made the most of their trips to Fort Osage, each winning their respective brackets without much resistance. Tyler, a cadet competing at 97-105 pounds, won two matches by 10-0 tech fall before taking a tiebreaker in a 5-5 match with Greater Heights’ Cole Martin to claim first place. Jordan, competing in the junior division at 122-133, was even more dominant, winning all three of his matches 10-0 and didn’t surrender a single point on his way to the top of the podium.
Among the high school boys, there were 40 round-robin brackets between the cadets and juniors. Below is a summary of the highest placers from Missouri in each division:
Cadet
97-105 pounds: Nacho Average Wrestlers’ Tyler Bell won two matches by a 10-0 tech fall before taking the tiebreaker in a 5-5 match with Greater Heights’ Cole Martin to earn first place.
98-106: Savannah’s Lane Smith dominated his matches as he earned two wins by tech fall and one by pin to earn a spot at the top of the podium.
106-114: Victory’s Paul Donnici took second place after finishing 2-1 as he won one match by fall and the other by tech fall.
111-119: Titan Wrestling Institute’s Roco Johnston pinned two of his opponents and earned a 12-0 tech fall victory over Warrensburg’s Cade Wedgewood to claim first place.
114-120: Greater Heights’ Elyas Padash had two wins by tech fall and won by pin to secure his bracket victory.
118-128: Ozark’s Carter York didn’t have much trouble getting through his bracket as he only surrendered one point in three matches, winning two by tech fall and one by pin to take first.
119-124: Bolivar Wrestling’s Collin Montgomery had two wins by tech fall and one by pin as he cruised to taking his bracket.
122-125: Willard Wrestling’s Finnegan Mccullah had two wins by tech fall and a victory by pin to win first place.
124-134: Titan Wrestling Institute’s Jaxin Johnston finished 2-1, with a win by fall and a 20-9 tech fall victory. He earned the tiebreaker despite losing a match by pin to take first.
125-132: Victory’s Jaxon Hooley pinned all his opponents in the first period as he cruised to first place.
129-133: Nixa’s Liam Foos finished 1-2 and took third place in his division.
134-140: Team Central’s Bodie Fichter went 3-0 in his bracket as he won one match by tech fall, one by injury forfeit and one by pin to take first place.
134-138: MO West’s Aaron Middleton finished 1-2, with his lone win coming via tiebreaker in an 8-8 match as he finished third.
135-140: Greater Heights’ George Bringus won all three of his matches by tech fall and only gave up six points total to earn his bracket victory.
136-141: Belton’s Santiago Diaz Suarez earned two wins by tech fall and edged Nixa’s Kenyan Strange 13-10 to take first.
137-149: Victory’s Gabriel White only gave up two points in three matches as he earned three tech fall wins to take first place.
138-143: Belton’s Jax Coble won all three of his matches by tech fall as he took first.
146-152: Riverside Training Center’s Zachary Zeltwanger pinned all three of his opponents in 1 minute and 23 seconds or less as he waltzed to a bracket win.
154-156: NW Grapplers’ Randall Eaton finished 2-1 in his round-robin bracket as he won a match 11-8 and another 14-4. He won the tiebreaker to take first place.
155-163: Chillicothe Wrestling Club’s Christian Stretch finished 2-1 with a pinfall and tech fall victory as he finished as the runner-up.
156-163: Greater Heights’ Luke Barmann had one win by two points and two by tech fall as he only surrendered one point on his way to first place.
164-179: Victory’s Avery Wilson won all three of his matches by tech fall as he rolled to a first-place finish.
176-188: Southern Boone’s Owen Britton finished in second place as he went 2-1 with wins by a 10-0 tech fall.
180-189: MO West’s Elias Haralson gave up just two points in three matches and won all of them by tech fall as he coasted to a bracket win.
194-207: War Eagle Wrestling’s Matthew Aust won both of his matches by tech fall to earn first place.
216-229: Eierman Elite’s Jax Vanderfeltz earned an 11-5 win over Benton High School’s Grayson Davis and won his other match by pin as he took first place.
258-280: Pleasant Hill’s Garrett Shoemaker won both of his matches in a best-of-three series with KCTC’s Griffin Bolyard as he earned one victory 7-2 and got a pin in 1:39 to win his bracket.

108-118: Willard Wrestling’s Gabe Grisham won his only contested match by pin and won two others by forfeit as he took first.
114-125: Northman Wrestling Club’s Michael White finished in second place after going 2-1 in his bracket. He won both of his matches by fall and lost his lone match via pin.
