Building a Legacy: Missouri Standout Alexis Stinson Quietly Becoming One of the Nation’s Top Heavyweights

Girls’ wrestling is the fastest-growing sport across the country, and with that, more and more elite athletes are emerging. But even with that growth, there are still some wrestlers putting together incredible resumes who just aren’t getting the attention they deserve.

Missouri heavyweight Alexis Stinson is one of them.

With a 50–2 record during the 2025–2026 season, two Missouri state titles, and a Fargo All-American finish, Stinson has quietly built one of the most impressive resumes in the 235-pound division. Yet despite competing and winning at a high level both in-state and nationally, the Liberty High School senior has not received the level of college attention you’d expect.

If you’ve seen her wrestle, though, you know that probably won’t last much longer.

From Family Roots to the Wrestling Mat

Stinson didn’t grow up wrestling like many top athletes do. She didn’t start at a young age or come up through youth circuits.

She didn’t step on the mat until her freshman year of high school.

Her younger brother, Dominic, had already started wrestling youth club wrestling, and that’s really what sparked her interest.

What started as curiosity turned into something much bigger.

As the oldest of seven kids four boys and three girls, Alexis was already used to competition, responsibility, and setting the tone for those around her.

Her dad, Mark Stinson, an Army veteran from New Jersey, always believed wrestling could teach lessons that go far beyond wins and losses.

“I wanted my kids to wrestle because it gets them ready to face life’s challenges.”

And for Alexis, that mindset showed up right away.

Mark remembers the exact moment he knew she was different.

Not after a big win, but after a loss.

“I knew Alexis would be special after I watched her lose her first match. Seeing the resilience she had and how much she hated losing told me everything I needed to know.”

That moment stuck and it’s something you can still see in how she competes today.

Competing at the Highest Levels

In just a few years, Alexis has turned herself into one of the most accomplished wrestlers in Missouri, and one of the top heavyweights in the country.

Her resume speaks for itself:

  • 2× Missouri State Champion
  • 2025 Fargo All-American (4th Place)
  • USA Girls High School Showcase All-American
  • Multiple-time USA Preseason All-American
  • 2025–2026 Record: 50–2

Her performance at Fargo is known as one of the toughest tournaments in the country, and she proved she can compete with anyone in the country.

But what stands out even more than the results is how she competes.

When asked how she prepares for big matches, Alexis kept it simple:

“By training for all outcomes.”

It’s not flashy, but it says a lot. She’s prepared, disciplined, and doesn’t get rattled all things college coaches look for.

Building Something Bigger at Liberty

Alexis wrestles for Liberty High School, a program already known for being strong in both the girls’ and boys’ divisions.

But she’s not just there to be part of something—she’s helping build something.

Alongside teammates Sandy Breeden and Lilly Breeden, she’s played a big role in pushing the girls’ program toward that same level of success.

She didn’t walk into a finished product.

She’s helping create it.

And that says a lot about her as both an athlete and a teammate.

An Outstanding Scholar Athlete

Off the mat, Alexis handles business the same way.

She’s a 3.5 GPA honors student and plans to major in Finance or Accounting, with the goal of going into corporate accounting.

Balancing school and high-level wrestling isn’t easy, but she’s proven she can do both.

A Recruit Worth Watching

At 235 pounds, Alexis competes in a division that’s only getting deeper and more competitive as girls’ wrestling continues to grow.

And even though she started later than most, she’s already:

  • A 2x state champion
  • A Fargo All-American
  • And consistently competing and placing at a national level

The biggest thing?

She’s still getting better.

For college programs looking for a heavyweight who brings proven results, toughness, leadership, and strong academics, Alexis Stinson is someone worth paying attention to.

Sometimes the athletes who didn’t grow up in the spotlight end up being the ones with the most upside.

Alexis feels like one of those athletes.

And right now, she’s still flying a little under the radar,

but not for long.
