If you ask senior Noah Patton and sophomore Jonah Fortier, the goal is for the Lee’s Summit West wrestling team to compete for a state trophy in 2025-26.
The Titans had a key matchup Tuesday against Fort Osage on the road to prove they could compete with some of the best teams in the state.
The Indians are a team that is consistently in the top 10 in the MissouriWrestling.com team rankings, so the dual was a good test for West.
Behind big wins from Patton and Fortier, the Titans edged Fort Osage 38-33 to win the dual.
“It’s usually a pretty competitive dual (with Fort Osage),” West head coach Adam West said. “They do have a couple of really good guys. If we keep competing, we can win duals against good teams.
“A couple of our guys competed hard and eeked out wins. That’s what it takes to win duals.”
Patton expressed confidence in his team going forward following a big win over Fort Osage.
“We are finally getting our team where we need it,” Patton said. “We have guys in the right weights. We are starting to look like the scary team I thought we would be at the beginning of the season.
Patton (285) had a win that sealed the dual for the Titans as he was the final match of the evening. He pinned Angelo Torres in the first round to score six points for his team and clinch the team victory.
“I used the barbed wire to pin him,” Patton said. “It wasn’t the hardest match, but I just need to do my things right and work on my stuff.”
Fortier (175) helped set up Patton’s winning match as he took a 22-6 tech fall victory over Michael Hillmon in 5:30.
“It took me a while to get to the pace I needed to,” Fortier said. “About the second period, I hit the pace I wanted and started getting takedowns. In the third period, I knew I was going to win that match.
