With several open weights, Mexico as a team would have an uphill battle against any of the teams they faced on their season home opener. However, two of these teams are District 2 opponents and will provide a nice barometer for the Lady Bulldogs on how they would fare in February.
Two of the three opponents for the Lady Bulldogs featured some very stout lineups. North Point’s lineup featured two Class 2 state-ranked wrestlers, both of them in the middleweights. The #5 at 135 lbs and the #7 at 140 lbs. The #4 ranked team in Class 1, Brookfield featured 6 state-ranked wrestlers including one #1 and two #2 ranked wrestlers at 110 lbs, 140 lbs. and 155 lbs. respectably.
There were several individual highlights but as a team, the Mexico Lady Bulldogs couldn’t overcome the amount of forfeits they gave up to each team and fell to 0-3 on the season in duals.
Highlights:
The lone Lady Bulldog to go undefeated in all of her match-ups was their #2 state-ranked 235 lb. wrestler, Alexus Johns. She would add two pins and a forfeit to give her definitive criteria over her District 2 opponents. Another Lady Bulldog and fellow returning state qualifier and #10 state-ranked at 135 lbs. (Abigail Bowen) also secured 2 victories at 135 lbs against Brookfield and Holt. Bowen’s lone loss came at her wrestling up at 140 lbs against North Point.

The Mexico Lady Bulldogs have more than a week off before their next competition. They are scheduled to travel to a neutral site for a tri-meet dual against the Hallsville Lady Indians and the Battle Lady Spartans. They will then conclude their December competition schedule with the 2-day Battle of Katy Trail. That tournament will feature nearly every ranked girls team in class 1 along with dozens of the top-ranked girls that Class 1 offers. After the Battle of Katy Trail, the Lady Bulldogs will be off the competition track until after the New Year. They will ring in the New Year with the toughest regular season girls’ tournament in the Midwest (The Wonder Woman). And because of the way the schedule falls for Mexico, they will have their conference dual tournament in Moberly on Monday, January 6th.
