On the coldest Monday of the year so far, the Mexico Lady Bulldogs hosted their annual tournament with a mix of both Class 1 and Class 2 teams (20 in all). One of those teams is currently ranked in the top 10 (Holden).
All of the Lady Bulldogs wrestled a minimum of three matches, with most of them wrestling five matches on the day. Overall the Lady Bulldogs finished with exactly 21 wins and 21 losses on the day for a .500 record. This was much improved from their results at Chillicothe just two days prior. Out of those 21 wins, 17 of them ended via a pin or a tech fall.
Several Lady Bulldogs did very well yesterday, with two champions. Addison Paden, a first year senior, won her bracket at the 140 lb. weight class with five straight victories, with three of them being bonus point wins (2 pins and a major decision). Her teammate, Alexus Johns would also go undefeated (4-0) with three pins and a tech-fall to win the 235 lb. bracket. The only wrestler to lose a single match and not medal for the Lady Bulldogs was junior Abigail Bowen, which was due to the tie-breaker during pool play. Three of the four wrestlers had only one loss, however Bowen would settle for 5th place in the bracket, even though she won four of her five matches on the day.
Before the medal round of the tournament the Lady Bulldogs honored their three seniors. Addison Paden, Maddie Tolbert, and Sherlyn Mena Lopez. (See picture) Maddie Tolbert was one of the founding members of the Lady Bulldog wrestling team five years ago, when she was in seventh grade.

The Lady Bulldogs will have only a couple of days to prepare for a dual at District 2 opponent, Centralia. The dual is scheduled for Thursday, January 23rd. They will then have nearly a week off before traveling to the Lexington Scramble on Wednesday, January 29th. (This will be their first time attending this tournament.) There are 12 teams scheduled to attend this event (including Mexico). However, none of them are scheduled to be in Mexico’s District tournament this season. They will then have a quick turnaround and wrestle the following Saturday (2/1) at the Seckman tournament. .
