William Woods Lady Owls Kickoff the 2nd Half of the Season at Missouri Baptist Invite

The William Woods Lady Owls have had nearly a month off from competition and it was unknown whether or not the time off from competition would prove to be a positive move for the young team.  Based on the results at the tough Missouri Baptist Invite, it was the right call.

Nearly every Lady Owl wrestler notched at least one win during the tournament and two of them would finish in the top six.  Teani Medeiros-Maielua bumped up to 131 lbs. for this tournament and looked solid all day.  She had two pins on the day to go along with a 9-4 win to close out her tournament.  Two of her wins came against conference opponent Baker University.  These wins may prove very valuable should she choose not to drop back down to 124 for the postseason.

A new face in the William Woods Lady Owls’ lineup, Mariyah Brumley at 235 lbs. made a statement that she belongs at the college level.  Brumley, who spent last semester completing her basic training for her future military service, won her first four collegiate matches to take home the individual tournament title.    One of her wins was against a conference opponent (Baker), which will help her with the conference tournament seeding in just about six weeks.

Overall, the William Woods Lady Owls would finish just under .500 in their 42 contested matches (20-22).  Out of their 20 wins, 9 of them ended with a victory by tech-fall or a pin.
