The William Woods men’s team traveled to Graceland University in Iowa for a NAIA dual matchup. The Owls entered the contest 1-5 on the season while Graceland is currently undefeated in duals (3-0) and ranked #21 in the country (NAIA). Graceland currently has six ranked wrestlers in their lineup (125 lbs., 157 lbs., 2 at 184 lbs., 197 lbs. and 285 lbs.).
The Owls had to wrestle short-handed again, giving up 18 points in forfeits at three different weights (125 lbs., 141 lbs., and 184 lbs.). Which meant the Owls would have to be nearly perfect and score bonus points in nearly all of the other 7 matches to have a chance at winning the dual.
However, it was Graceland University taking control of the dual from start to finish. Graceland would earn bonus point victories in their six non-forfeit matches. This included 3 pins, 2 tech fall victories, and 1 major decision (at 174 lbs.). Added to their 18 points from forfeits, the Graceland University Yellow Jackets scored 50 team points, while the William Woods Owls would earn only six from their lone match victory coming at 157 lbs.
Individual Highlights:
Brayden Phillips provided the Owls with their lone match victory in the dual. He would be involved in a couple different scrambles during the match but using his skills to come out on top in each of those situations. He would also earn near fall points before securing the pin. Phillips improves to 6-7 on the year heading into the month of December.
As a team, the William Woods Owls fall to 1-6 in duals this season and are currently winless in conference duals. While Graceland University remains undefeated, improving to 4-0 in duals this season.
