#14 Mizzou over Northern Colorado (24-14)
This dual was an underrated early season test for the Tigers, who won six matches to four and each team had multiple bonus point wins. As expected there were multiple starters out as two true freshmen made their debut. Overall there weren’t any upsets in this dual, but closer matches on the Tigers end. While it wasn’t the strongest performance overall they clinched it with their big guns from 165-184 and were tested early in the season on the road.
197lbs: Aeoden Sinclair Maj. Franklin Cruz (19-11)
I thought there was a chance that this dual didn’t start at 125, but I’d bet on Coach Nickerson winning the coin toss and forcing Mizzou to put Sinclair out at 197. He had a solid debut in a surprisingly back and forth match. Sinclair scored five takedowns, mixing it up with a slide by, scrambles, and some nice go behinds. He gave up some takedowns as well, but it seemed like he came out fired up in his debut and rushed in some positions. It was a solid debut overall for Sinclair, who should only improve with more experience.
285 lbs: #23 Seth Nitzel Dec. Remington Peterson (11-4)
This match essentially consisted of Nitzel on top and Peterson threatening reversals for most of the match. Nitzel scored a great early takedown and never left top, that continued into the second period where Peterson took bottom. Nitzel did force a stall point after some warnings, but went back and forth between near turns and near reversals. In the third Nitzel escaped and scored an easy takedown, cutting and trying to get the major. He got the clinching takedown, but finally gave up a reversal as time expired to lose the bonus points…
