January Ends on Sour Note for Title-Bound Roosters

The landscape of Missouri Boys Class Two wrestling was shaken up on Tuesday, January 31st at Pleasant Hill High School. Senior night in Pleasant Hill was meant to honor the senior class who had helped put together two consecutive state titles thus far for the Roosters, however, the boys from Odessa seemed to have other plans.

The Roosters came into the dual riding a wave of momentum, fresh off a Lydia’s Lights Invitational win where six Roosters made the finals.

Junior Troy Gustin (138) and Seniors, Sam Ewing (144), Garrett Lyons (150), and Jacob Hanes (215) all took home their respective individual titles by way of pin as they cruised to a sizable tournament win over the likes of Lee’s Summit North, Hickman, and Platte County.

Prior to the tournament, Pleasant Hill also made quick work of conference rival Oak Grove, as the Roosters stormed to a commanding 61-15 win on the road against the Panthers.

The night began with the usual pomp and circumstance of any senior night, but there was an energy in the air as the long standing, top dog Roosters welcomed the newly ranked number two Bulldogs to the Coop.

As the Roosters rolled out the red carpet for their stars, the Bulldogs threw a party of their own right in the house of their host.

Odessa struck while the iron was hot and kicked off the match with six straight wins. While the dual started with a 5-0 decision win from 106-pound Landon Scarborough, The Dogs then pinned their next four opponents to set up another rematch at 138 between Gable Gross and Troy Gustin.
