Blue Springs had two wrestlers who are normally in the 132-pounds weight class.
However, they were unable to make weight ahead of Thursday’s non-conference dual against Van Horn.
Wrestler Interviews:
- Blue Springs’ Devin Baldwin (138)
- Blue Springs’ Logan Swaffar (132)
- Blue Springs’ Greg Dillon (150)
- Van Horn’s Jeffrey Morris (285)
- Van Horn’s Jaylin Mitchell (215)
That provided an opportunity for newcomer Logan Swaffar, who was listed as an extra on the roster, to compete in his first varsity match.
The freshman faced off against junior Robert Atkinson in the 132-pound bout and earned a pin in 3 minutes as his win highlighted a 45-34 team victory for Blue Springs at Van Horn High School.
“He’s very inexperienced but he has a great attitude,” Blue Springs head coach Bobbe Lowe said of Swaffar. He works really hard. Those are things you like to see as a coach is a kid who really enjoys the process and is really learning, being a sponge and works hard every day.
“He get to represent his team unexpectedly and gets a win. He not only got the win, he got bonus points for his team.
Swaffar admitted his was nervous before the match, but those calmed once his was in the circle.
