#6 Mizzou (2-1) vs #15 Virginia Tech (1-1)
All Time Record vs: 4-2
After a strong conference win last week, Mizzou hits the road for a top 15 dual against a young but battle tested Virginia Tech squad. Tech has four freshmen in the lineup, and potentially four other veteran All-Americans. With Noah Surtin likely out for another dual with a knee injury, this dual becomes even closer. Similar to the ASU dual earlier in the year, Mizzou will need to win the toss-ups and get bonus points if they want to ensure a win. Tech suffered an early season loss to #3 Ohio State, but this team has top ten potential by the end of the year and will challenge the Tigers at each weight.
125lbs: Peyton Moore (6-5) vs #17 Eddie Ventresca (10-3)
I’ve said a few times that Surtin appears to be banged up, and I think it’s smart to sit him until he’s back to 100%. With that, Mizzou will likely send out Peyton Moore, who just had a pin against West Virginia. They also have Preston Spray at this weight, but I don’t expect to see him until second semester due towith an injury. VT has Ventresca here who is a standout freshman with multiple ranked wins. Ideally Mizzou can avoid giving up bonus, but Ventresca will stay aggressive against a backup and has the ability to get a tech. Moore is solid from top so he could be able to slow the match down, but even a major here would be a win for the Tigers.
Prediction: Ventresca Maj. Moore (MIZ 0 VT 4)
