The Lee’s Summit wrestling team will have some momentum going into the Class 4 District 3 tournament in nine days.
The Tigers took on Oak Park in Suburban Red Conference action and dominated in a 61-13 victory at home.
Lee’s Summit has come a long way since last year after qualifying just two wrestlers for state in 2021. Head coach Jay McGovern thinks they could have many more push through to state this year.
“Their attitude has been great and this is the hardest working group of kids I have ever coached,” McGovern said. “They accept every challenge that we give them and they just continue to improve.
Michael Foley (138) was one of many winners for the Tigers as he pinned Ben Droptiny in just 37 seconds.
“I ended up getting a right side, outside tie,” Foley said. “Once my shoulder popped out during a fireman, I had to spin to get a front headlock. Once I did that, I got a far side cradle.”
Nathan Wishne (132) had to bump up a weight class but was able to get a key takedown late in the second period to earn a 6-4 decision against Kaleb Peterson.
