Odessa coach Kirk Gross said he warns his team against getting complacent, but at the same time he wants it to believe it’s a championship-level team.
The Bulldogs proved just that in Monday’s dual with Lee’s Summit West. Odessa, a Class 2 school, took down the Class 4 Titans in a 53-17 victory at Lee’s Summit West High School.
“From top to bottom, we have the best lineup I’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Gross, who is in his 10th year at the helm of the Bulldogs. “I don’t like to blow smoke, but I tell the boys, you should be confident in what you have and work hard because you got a little bit of a bullseye on your back.
“If I said we haven’t been talking about a state title, I would be lying to you. I feel it’s within reach.”
