1st Ever Girls State Greco Tournament Recap: History made.

For the first time ever, Missouri USA Wrestling held a state girls Greco Wrestling Tournament Saturday at the Mathewson Exhibition Center in Sedalia.

Greco wrestling tournaments have been few and far between in Missouri with one of the only ones being at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic the past two years in Lee’s Summit.

Several girls competed in this tournament and many of them were wrestling the Greco style for the first time. The winner of each weight class qualified to be a part of Team Missouri for the Junior/Cadet National Duals in Tulsa, Okla.

At the Tournament in Sedalia, there was just one division that included both cadets and juniors.

Below is a summary of the winners in each weight class for the Missouri Girls State Greco Tournament:

100: Troy Buchanan’s Zoey Haney won both her matches – one by a 8-0 tech fall and one by pin 4:37 as she qualified for the national dual team.

“I think I did pretty good. I am still new to Greco. This is probably my fifth Greco tournament that I have wrestled,” Haney said.

106: Nevada’s Aleah Conard finished in a three-way tie with a 3-1 record with Madison Haney and Greenwood’s Kinley Harker, but won the tiebreaker as she earned first place as all of her wins came by fall….
