Two nationally ranked teams collide; Liberty takes the victory over Park Hill

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Of all the random places to start a dual, the 138-pound opener Thursday night portended the likelihood for a memorable finish between Park Hill and Liberty.

The two nationally ranked Missouri foes were close for all 14 matches at Park Hill High School, but the hosts went in the final match down five and with only one unlikely path to victory. The final pairing? Liberty senior Austin Kolvek against Park Hill junior and former teammate Trey Crawford at 132 pounds.

Crawford ended up with a come-from-behind 7-4 decision win but didn’t earn the pin needed to change the dual’s result. Instead, Liberty came away with a 31-29 dual victory thanks to three pins.

Kolvek was a three-time Class 4 Missouri State Wrestling Championship qualifier and two-time medalist at Park Hall before transferring to Liberty in the offseason.
