Kent St. Dual
#15 Colby Smith (6-1) OR Dack Punke (1-2) OR Cam Valdiviez (8-3) vs. Jake Ferri (10-7)
Thoughts: Ferri is decent, but any of the Tigers listed above would be a favorite over him in this bout. Smith has a huge weight cut and I doubt we see him compete in this bout. Punke was has very few matches coming into this bout, but was a favorite to win the spot before Smith announced he was dropping. Punke wrestles a really solid defensive style and is hard to score on. Valdiviez has more of a gun slinger, scrambler mentality and can be a lot of fun to watch. Valdiviez is also capable of bigger pendulum swings going either way, as a result of his style. I think Punke will get the start here and win a close match for the good guys.
Prediction: Punke Dec Ferri 4-2 (MIZZ 3-0)
#9 John Erneste (7-2) OR Allan Hart (8-3) vs. Tim Rooney (14-5)
Thoughts: This should be a fun match. Last time out Erneste picked up a dominating 9-0 major decision over #19 Louie Hayes (UVA) in a very calculated tactical bout. Rooney has had a strong start to his season and gave #11 Desanto of Iowa all he wanted before losing 8-7. Rooney is large for the weight class and has a good gas tank. Erneste is a hammer on top and Rooney tends to struggle with those sorts of wrestlers. I look for this match to be close for about a period here, but then Erneste should earn some space with his scrambling ability and mat wrestling. Expect an Erneste win here, and possible bonus points if he can turn Rooney. If Hart goes this match trends more into toss-up territory.
Prediction: Erneste Maj. Rooney 12-3 (MIZZ 7-0)
#3 Jaydin Eierman (10-1) vs. Cory Simpson (13-14)
Thoughts: Eierman is an offensive wizard and will likely be looking for bonus here. Simpson has three losses to ranked wrestlers this season and all came by technical fall or fall.
