Session V (Medal Rounds) Recap: Mizzou

12 Mizzou – 11th (49.5 Points)

Link to Brackets

Mizzou finishes their tournament with three All-Americans and are tied for 11th with NC State. NC State has a wrestler in the finals that could push them above Mizzou. O’Toole finishes 3rd for the second time in his career, nearly bonusing his way through all his opponents outside of Carr. Rocky struggled on day two with a semi slide to 6th place but is still a four-time All-American. He and O’Toole are the programs fourth and fifth ever four-timers. Zach scored a huge upset over Cohlton Schultz, who majored him last season. He gave Hendrickson some scares in their placement match but finishes fourth and ends his career in his hometown as two-time All-American.

165lbs: #1 Keegan O’Toole – 3rd

  • Champ. Round 1: #1 Keegan O’Toole Fall #33 Jack Thomsen (UNI) (2:55)
  • Champ. Round 2: #1 Keegan O’Toole Fall #16 Will Miller (APP) (5:57)
  • Quarterfinals: #1 Keegan O’Toole Fall #8 Antrell Taylor (NEB) (4:06)
  • Semifinals: #4 David Carr (ISU) Dec. #1 Keegan O’Toole (8-6)
  • Consi. Semis: #1 Keegan O’Toole Tech #20 Hunter Garvin (STAN) (6:37 17-1)
  • 3rd Place Match: #1 Keegan O’Toole Dec. #6 Michael Caliendo (IOWA) (12-8)

O’Toole did his thing against Garvin, racking up points with some nifty finishes and relentless offense. He was on his way to doing the same against Caliendo, with a 9-2 lead after one. Unfortunately it seems like his gas tank was again impaired as Caliendo began to battle back and made things close. O’Toole gutted it out though and is a four-time All-American who has two 3rd place finishes.

197lbs: #12 Rocky Elam – 6th

  • Champ. Round 1: #12 Rocky Elam Dec. #21 Mac Stout (PITT) (6-2)
  • Champ. Round 2: #12 Rocky Elam Dec. #5 Jacob Cardenas (CORN) (4-0)
  • Quarterfinals: #12 Rocky Elam Dec. #4 Michael Beard (LEH) (8-2)
  • Semifinals: #1 Aaron Brooks (PSU) Tech #12 Rocky Elam (5:46 17-2)
  • Cons. Semis: #5 Jacob Cardenas (CORN) Dec. #12 Rocky Elam (7-3)
  • 5th Place Match: #3 Tanner Sloan (SDSU) Dec. #12 Rocky Elam (7-0)

Rocky was sporting some sort of new brace/sleeve on the knee he injured against Brooks, and he didn’t have the same offensive output this morning…
