Mizzou vs Oklahoma State Dual Preview

This should be an incredibly fun dual. These are two of the best coached and aggressive teams in the country. Coach Smith always has the team ready to go for Oklahoma State, and this is likely the teams third biggest date on their calendar all season long. The bouts at every weight will be hotly contested and both teams have an opportunity to qualify all ten wrestlers for NCAA’s.

Dack Punke (9-6) vs. #4 Nick Piccininni (26-0)

Thoughts: Punke has wrestled a lot of overtime bouts against solid competition lately, but has struggled to pull the trigger late in matches and that has partially led to four overtime losses in the last month and a half. The key for Punke in this match however is just to limit the damage. Piccininni is one of the slickest, most technical guys at this weight class in the country. Piccininni has an excellent sweep single and low double and is a smooth finisher. Piccininni is also one of the best top wrestlers in this weight class. Piccininni is not a huge 125 and and he can be slowed down by stronger guys at this weight class, but Punke’s bottom issues do not portend well for the Tiger here. I am taking Piccininni by a major 16-5, in which Punke barely avoids the technical fall.

Prediction: Piccininni Maj. Punke 16-5 (OKST 4-0)

# 10 John Erneste (14-3) vs. #2 Daton Fix (24-1)

Thoughts: This is one of the most anticipated matches in this dual meet. Erneste is having a solid senior season and is a very unorthodox counter wrestler. Erneste is tremendously tough from the top position and he scrambles out of his opponents shots at a very high level.
