Barlow McGhee (7-6) vs. Tomas Gutierrez (5-9)

Thoughts: McGhee has been having a rough time lately. He has had gas tank issues and problems pulling the trigger at times. I actually really enjoyed McGhee’s offensive output against Buffalo, but he stopped wrestling after the first period. Gutierrez is not a great wrestler at this point in his career. McGhee really needs a win here for conference seeding and to stop his recent slide. McGhee is a lot more talented than Gutierrez and should be a favorite here even given his recent woes. I would look for a close controlled decision by three or four.

Prediction: McGhee Dec 7-4 (Mizz 3-0)

#11 John Erneste (16-1) vs. Noah Gonser (8-7)

Thoughts: Erneste should be a solid favorite here. He is having an excellent season and his top game will cause Gonser problems. Gonser is a dangerous guy, especially from the top position and he has some solid wins this season. Both Erneste and Gonser are excellent in scrambles, so that will be one area of interest in this bout. I expect Erneste to control the match from every position. He is too technically proficient from neutral and top to lose in scrambles here. Erneste will rack up some nearfall from top and notch a really nice major decision in this bout.

Prediction: Erneste Maj. 11-2 (Mizz 7-0)

#5 Jaydin Eierman (19-1) vs. Sa’Derrian Perry (9-11)

Thoughts: Eierman is a huge favorite here. Perry will be game and is a solid guy, but Eierman’s offensive diversity, creativity and top game will give him fits here. I expect Eierman to notch a tech fall at minimum here, but a fall is more likely. Eierman’s ability to get to cradles out of scrambles has elevated to an elite level lately and makes him if possible even more dangerous than previously. Look for Eierman to get to his offense early and give Perry fits from top and neutral.

Prediction: Eierman Fall (Mizz 13-0)

#4 Grant Leeth (15-2) vs. Kyle Springer (13-12)

Thoughts: Leeth is extremely solid and has a couple nice go-to leg attacks, as well as amazing counter shots and counter scrambling. He is strong for the weight and has been adding to his top game lately.
