Missouri Valley College Women’s Wrestling moves up in latest coaches poll

Marshall, Mo. (January 3, 2019)- The Missouri Valley College women’s wrestling team moved up in the latest NAIA Women’s Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, released Thursday.  The Vikings jumped up one spot to No. 16, with three individuals ranked.

The women’s wrestling team has not competed since hosting the Missouri Valley Open, back on Nov. 18, but will resume its season at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky., this weekend.

Missouri Valley is one of six schools from the KCAC ranked in the coaches’ poll.  The University of Jamestown (N.D.) is No. 6, Ottawa (Kan.) University is No. 9, York (Neb.) College is No. 10, Midland (Neb.) University is No. 13 and the University of St. Mary (Kan.) is No. 20.

Three individual Vikings are ranked in their respective weight classes, led by Junior Shamera McTier (Poinciana, Fla.), who comes in at No. 3 at 155 pounds.  Freshman Alyandina Bushe (Kapolei, Hawaii) is No. 5 at 191 pounds, and Freshman Joceyln Murphy (Jacksonville, Ill.) is No. 13 at 130 pounds.

Missouri Valley will open the NWCA National Duals with a first round matchup against No. 3 University of Southern Oregon, Friday at 3 p.m.  The NWCA National Duals will continue into Saturday, in Louisville, Ky.
