“We battled well with Missouri, but there is a reason why they are the No. 4 ranked team in NCAA Division I,” said Men’s Wrestling Head Coach Mike Machholz. “I was very proud of our freshman at 125 pounds, Jacob Seto. He battled with a Nationally ranked opponent to a close decision in his first collegiate match. Overall we got outgunned, but still showed up and competed. That was a tough dual to open the event with, but a really good atmosphere for our guys to be a part of.”

Vs. Central Missouri

174 pounds: No. 14 Junior Nicholas Whitehead (Zion, Ill.) defeated Tyler Selemaea in a 15-14 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 20-6.
184 pounds: Ramberg lost to Dylan Bollinger in a 4-2 decision. Missouri Valley leads, 20-9.

285 pounds: Gomez defeated Ryan Morris in a 15-3 major decision.
Missouri Valley wins the dual, 27-9.

“We came out against UCM a bit beat down from the Mizzou dual, and were a little flat,” said Machholz. “Former Viking, and four-time All-American Jake Ekster is a graduate assistant at UCM and his group was ready to compete against us. Barnes and Simmons got us rolling and our bigs finished things up. I knew this would be a tough dual, but we handled them pretty well.”

133 pounds: Durbin defeated Caleb Osborn in a third period (6:36) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 12-0.

157 pounds: Boyd won by forfeit. Missouri Valley leads, 27-0.
165 pounds: Simmons defeated Zach Taylor in a second period (3:13) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 33-0.
174 pounds: Destra defeated Luke Komotos in a 16-0 technical fall. Missouri Valley leads, 38-0.
184 pounds: Ramberg defeated Shane Gallagher in a first period (1:47) pin. Missouri Valley leads, 44-0.
197 pounds: Fouchey won by forfeit. Missouri Valley leads, 50-0.
285 pounds: Gomez defeated Ashton Mutuwa by pin.
Missouri Valley wins the dual, 56-0.

“We rebounded and wrestled pretty well against Truman,” said Machholz. “Truman was missing a couple of its guys, but we are just deeper right now. Binder, Johnson, Simmons and Destra all got us going.”

The Vikings are now 2-1 in duals on the season.

“Overall, Simmons had a good day,” said Machholz. He scored the only offensive points that Mizzou gave up in the entire event, and outclassed his other opponents. Gomez and Ramberg got their first wins as Vikings. We have work to do and need to strengthen our conditioning a bit, but it’s still nice to start the dual season with a 2-1 record.”

Up next for the Missouri Valley men’s wrestling team is the Lindenwood (Mo.) University Open, Saturday at 9 a.m., in St. Charles, Mo. The next dual takes place Nov. 30, at home against Benedictine (Kan.) College.
