Marshfield moving on with Snider, relying on improved culture of the program

By: Ross Martin

Numbers and participation remain up for Marshfield. The biggest challenge right now for the Blue Jays involves the loss of nine four-year starters over the past two seasons.

That list grew to include Clay Wilson — a three-time qualifier, two-time medalist and third-place finisher at 182 pounds in last year’s Class 3 Missouri State Wrestling Championships. In addition, Marshfield loses 2018 state medalist Travin Plemmons and 2018 qualifier Jordan Irwin. With those three in the fold, the Blue Jays were 17th and 20th the past two seasons in the final Class 3 standings.

We have definitely changed the culture in Marshfield wrestling over the past five seasons, and our kids now expect to win,” Marshfield coach Matt Holt said. “We need to find more postseason success though. Because of that our regular season is much tougher this season, and we might see a decline in our regular season success but hopefully it better prepares us for a postseason run.”
