Walk into the newly expanded Liberty High School wrestling room, and you’re going to notice a little more than a change of scenery. There’s a change in mindset and attitude.
A program that produced modest success through the years, the Blue Jays have entered a stratosphere only once imagined. Under the watchful eye of head coach Dustin Brewer, the Blue Jays have improved by leaps and bounds, and in three short seasons, they find themselves included not only in state championship discussions, but also in the national rankings due to the culture created by the man in charge.
“Our goal is to win state. It’s plain and simple,” senior leader Jeremiah Reno said. “And I think we have the team to do it.”
It certainly appears that way on paper. Coming off the best season in program history, Liberty has one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the state of Missouri for the upcoming 2019-20 season.
Last year, the Blue Jays spent most of the season ranked No. 1 in the MissouriWrestling.com Class 4 state poll.
