Girls: Class 1 District 2 Preview

The postseason is here for Missouri Wrestling and the road to the state podium starts on Friday afternoon (February 9th) in gymnasiums across the state.  For those in the northwest sections of the St. Louis metro/county areas and most of Mid-Missouri, that gymnasium will be at St. Charles West High School in St. Charles, MO.

For those not familiar with the MSHSAA state qualifying system, the top four in each weight class at each District tournament will earn the right to wrestle at the state tournament two weeks after their respective District Tournament.  What that means is that each team mentioned in this article will be vying for as many of those 56 state qualifying spots as they can earn.  There is also a team point aspect to this tournament (like many others during the regular season) and there are several of these teams that will be in the hunt for those as well.

  • Blair Oaks High School
    • Returning Qualifiers: 3
    • Predicted Qualifiers:  4

Summary:  The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons return three experienced state qualifiers (1 of them a medalist).  Depending upon how the brackets fall for Blair Oaks, all three of their returning qualifiers should get in plus at least 1 additional qualifier, bringing their total up to a respectable 4.  They are currently the highest-ranked team in this District according to the rankings via missouriwrestling.com (#4)

  • Boonville High School
    • Returning Qualifiers:  1
    • Predicted Qualifiers:  1-2

Summary:  The Boonville Lady Pirates return 1 state qualifier and could feasibly get a second one through as long as both wrestlers compete at their full potential.

  • Brookfield High School
    • Returning Qualifiers: 5
    • Predicted Qualifiers: 5-7

Summary:  The Brookfield Lady Bulldogs return a solid 5 state qualifiers (3 of them medalists) and there’s no indication that those ladies can’t repeat their efforts from the season before which led to a 2nd place finish at state.  In addition, they could have two of their underclassmen step up and pull 1 or 2 upsets to give them half a starting lineup at the state tournament which would put them in line for another state trophy as well as possibly a District..
