Five state-ranked teams will travel to Branson this weekend to duke it out in the 2018 Branson Invitational. The favorites will be the Neosho Wildcats and Monett Cubs. However, Monett is coming off a rough weekend that saw them finish 3rd in their own tournament. Neosho was the state champion in class 3 last season and Smithville was the state runner-ups for class 3. Seneca was the class 1 runner-up and Ste. Genevieve notched a top ten finish. There will also be Arkansas teams from Bentonville and Fayetteville and also Vian from Oklahoma.
#1 Levi Connelly- Seneca
#1 Joseph Semerad- Monett
#1 Cayden Auch- Neosho
#2 Jacob Dickens- Ste. Genevieve
The tournament kicks off with a bang. Three of the four number ones in the state are featured here and it’ll be a battle for any of the top-ranked wrestlers to make the finals. Semerad was a state champion last season, while, Connelly was a state runner-up. Auch is a talented freshman who has been absolutely destroying everyone through the state and Dickens is putting together a great season. This will be a weight that everyone will be watching all weekend. It will be the freshman Auch taking the title over Connelly with Semerad settling for 3rd.
#1 Matthew Bahl- Monett
#3 Nathan Geisner- Ste. Genevieve
#4 Oscar Ortiz- McDonald County
#5 Kolton Sanders- Neosho
At 113 there is another tough group of kids. Lead by #1 Bahl, however, last weekend he wrestled up a weight and on the Jayvee team. This article is being written assuming that it was a one-off happening. Geisner has put together a good season having dropped a match or two here and there. Ortiz has dropped just three matches on the year and is looking poised to take a run at the top spot in the state.
