De Smet looking to continue their success

By: Cory Peterson

De Smet is coming off an unfamiliar and successful year. The Spartans finished in 5th place in the always tough class 4 state tournament. They will look to continue this success as they lose a state qualifier and their state champ from a season ago.

With all the eyes on the newly hired head coach Drae Cox, it didn’t take long for success to show.

After the departure of former head coach Colby Robinson the Spartans looked to have little respect after a poor showing with only one state placer and qualifier.

In Cox’s first year at the helm, the Spartans found themselves with double the state placers. Following the promising showing, the Spartans didn’t disappoint.

They finished extremely strong as they rounded out the top 5 of the 2019 state tournament.
