UR Zain Retherford, USA
Retherford opens his tournament up against a familiar face for NCAA wrestling fans in former Edinboro wrestler #14 David Habat (SLO). I slightly favor Retherford in his first bout. If he gets by Habat he would likely see Russian Expatriate Adam Batirov (BAH) who currently competes for Bahrain. I favor Retherford to win this match as well. In his quarterfinal Retherford would likely meet either #7 Meisam Nasiri (IRI) or #11 Alan Gogaev (RUS). Either one of those competitors is a tough out. His potential semifinal would be against either #5 Jakob Iakobishvili (GEO), #6 Bajrang Bajrang (IND) or #15 Mustafa Kaya of Turkey.
There are no easy matches here for Retherford, but I believe he will win his first two before dropping in the quarters. I do not believe he will get drawn back in.
#3 James Green, USA
Green will get started with a bye followed by a second round match against Nestor Barrios (COL), which should be a controlled win for Green.
Green’s likely quarterfinal opponent is eighteenth ranked Zurabi Erbotsonashvili (GEO). That match will likely be much more competitive, but I think Green advances to the semis. His semifinal will likely pit him against either #9 Moustafa Hosseinkhani (IRI) or #13 Ghadzimurad Omarov (AZE).
