I was excited to read the Class 4 preview only to find it was a KC hype article . Its more left slanted than CNN.

I am writing a second article that is more analysis based for Class 4. Should be out sometime tomorrow.

Fair enough. Unnecessary joke about the left side of the state

I don't think the issue is too many classes (i.e Class 1, Class 2 etc...) It is too many weight classes. There aren't enough wrestlers per team to fill out this many weight classes. Class 1 - 8.49 Kids per team entered into Districts Class 2 - 9.08 wrestlers per team entered into Districts Class 3 - 10.69 wrestlers per team entered into the districts Class 4 - 10.56 Wrestlers per team entered into districts

I've been assigned to announce the Class 4 finals again, this year. I fully expect to be figuring the team score as the finals go on. It's gonna be a fun Saturday night.

There’s no question the state tournament has been watered down since moving to 4 classes. That’s obvious and apparent. Pretty sure that discussion has been ongoing for the last 13-14 yrs

good example: David Brooks 145 from staley is obviously a stud (district champion) and I'm pretty sure he didnt even place top 10 at winnetonka.

The info I had from good sources is that was going to be the case so I am making that assumption. We will probably not know for sure until match time.

OK, you message board people. Brackets are out, what's your thoughts on exciting matchups and draws?

Will you ever move this event to the Missouri side? With the sliding attendance, you can even host it at a local high school that supports wrestling, not a community college in KS that doesn't have a program.

I dont know if that means the field is watered down. I think the bad records could have a lot more to do with tougher scheduling/competition. the winnetonka tournament is significantly tougher than it was just 5 years ago - schools like Lafayette, Staley, Liberty and Kearney are just a few teams that werent a big factor or weren't in the tournament at all in 2013.

132- 1st round Austin Kolvek (Liberty) vs. Jack Lenox (Marquette) Mr. Lenox should have quite a few fans from CBC, Staley, and Park Hill on Thursday night.

The big dual of the weekend saw two upsets itself, in the first two weights of the match with Roman Bravo-Young starting things out at 133 and defeating #7 Luke Pletcher in TB-2. At the very next weight, #4 Nick Lee beat #2 Joey McKenna 7-6, which is the exact same score from their meeting last season. The major upset over the weekend, though in my opinion, was Daniel Lewis pinning returning National Champion Zahid Valencia. Here's our full list of upsets from the weekend: 141 - #4 Nick Lee (Penn State) beat #2 Joseph McKenna (Ohio State) by DEC 7 - 6 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/49276/lee-nick/profile 174 - #3 Daniel Lewis (Missouri) beat #2 Zahid Valencia (Arizona State) by FALL 4:15 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/20062/lewis-daniel/profile 197 - #11 Benjamin Honis (Cornell) beat #4 Patrick Brucki (Princeton) by DEC 7 - 6 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/43656/honis-benjamin/profile 165 - #20 Demetrius Romero (Utah Valley) beat #5 Bryce Steiert (Northern Iowa) by DEC 8 - 4 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/39948/romero-demetrius/profile 184 - #11 Nino Bonaccorsi (Pittsburgh) beat #6 Nick Reenan (North Carolina State) by MD 8 - 0 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/49285/bonaccorsi-nino/profile 141 - #10 Mike Carr (Illinois) beat #6 Tristan Moran (Wisconsin) by DEC 2 - 1 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/44645/carr-mike/profile 141 - #21 AC Headlee (North Carolina) beat #7 Mitch Moore (Virginia Tech) by SV-1 4 - 2 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/39627/headlee-ac/profile 133 - #9 Roman Bravo-Young (Penn State) beat #7 Luke Pletcher (Ohio State) by TB-2 2 - 1 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/49665/bravo-young-roman/profile 174 - #29 Kimball Bastian (Utah Valley) beat #8 Taylor Lujan (Northern Iowa) by DEC 6 - 5 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/40322/bastian-kimball/profile 285 - #27 Conan Jennings (Northwestern) beat #8 Mason Parris (Michigan) by DEC 7 - 5 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/20222/jennings-conan/profile 197 - #22 Christian Brunner (Purdue) beat #9 Nathan Traxler (Stanford) by DEC 4 - 3 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/44744/brunner-christian/profile 197 - #41 Brandon Whitman (North Carolina) beat #12 Tom Sleigh (Virginia Tech) by DEC 7 - 4 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/50602/whitman-brandon/profile 157 - #35 Dan Reed (Columbia) beat #14 Anthony Artalona (Pennsylvania) by DEC 3 - 2 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/19818/reed-dan/profile 125 - #88 Audey Ashkar (Binghamton) beat #17 Dylan Ryder (Hofstra) by FALL 2:48 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/44989/ashkar-audey/profile 174 - #65 Gregg Harvey (Pittsburgh) beat #17 Daniel Bullard (North Carolina State) by DEC 6 - 4 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/45148/harvey-gregg/profile 285 - #25 Cory Gillilland-Daniel (North Carolina) beat #18 Billy Miller (Virginia Tech) by DEC 3 - 2 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/22024/gillilland-daniel-cory/profile 157 - #33 Griffin Parriott (Purdue) beat #20 John Van Brill (Rutgers) by DEC 3 - 2 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/44608/parriott-griffin/profile 197 - #32 Drew Phipps (Bucknell) beat #20 Rocco Caywood (Army) by DEC 7 - 3 http://www.wrestlestat.com/wrestler/45224/phipps-drew/profile

I also noticed that they didnt wrestle 5th place matches at our district. I think 120 had an injury in the 3rd and 4th place match so there could be a bye in that bracket as well.

Unfortunately, 145 3rd place match (class 2, district 2) the only possible situation in the tournament to hit the 5 match rule; happened. They wrestle Monday morning- weather permitting.
