This district is basically the Midland Empire Conference + Excelsior Springs + a half-dozen of schools from the Kansas City Metropolitan area.
The Cameron Dragons were the 2019 Midland Empire Conference Champions scoring 344.5 team points. Head Coach Phillip Limb’s squad had three individual conference champions and four conference runner-ups wrapped up in the totals.
The Dragons bested the runner-up Chillicothe Hornets by 25 points to take the team title. The Benton Cardinals finished in third place with 288 team points.
Leading the way in district competition for the Cameron Dragons at 126 lbs. will be junior Caleb Worland. Worland is a two-time state qualifier and is currently ranked #4 in the state.
No other Dragons appear in the state rankings, however Limb always has his teams ready to compete for the district title! Limb added that his team and staff are “excited for the post season and ready to wrestle hard to punch a ticket to Mizzou Arena.”
Head Coach Chad Smith and his Chillicothe Hornets are not only excited about districts but excited that they have been able to practice and get a few competitions in after this stretch of bad weather.
Coach Smith thinks that the Hornets “are peaking at the right time and are ready for the districts.” Chillicothe will be led by two MEC Champions in Colton Sewell (132 lbs.) and Matthew Callen (220 lbs.).
