Chillicothe can now confidently stake a claim as a Midland Empire Conference and Class 2 District 4 contender. Smithville’s exit to the Suburban Conference and a postseason reshuffling have been a factor, but the Hornets have also taken great strides as a program in recent years.
The circumstances align for Chillicothe coach Chad Smith to field another competitive team.
Last season, Chillicothe sent nine to the Class 2 Missouri State Wrestling Championships, and six from that contingent return. However, the Hornets will have to replace team leader Kayde Burton (state runner-up at 182 in 2018) and make improvements to move up the state standings.
