Carthage makes most of appearance at Platte County Invitational, winning team title in weather-depleted field

PLATTE CITY, Mo. — With the team title secured, Carthage’s coaches, athletes and fans put all their energy into the undisputed highlight match of the 47th annual Platte County Invitational.

The 220-pound championship match pitted two nationally ranked wrestlers in a much-anticipated rematch Saturday afternoon at Platte County High School. Weather forced Helias, Kirksville, Oak Grove and Warrensburg to cancel their trips, and the remaining seven teams were forced into mostly unusually diluted round robins.

However, St. James Academy (Kansas) senior Cade Lautt provided the highlight in a 5-2 decision win over Carthage senior Kale Schrader to cap the day.
