Lemanowicz & Synon Highlight Eight Top-3 Finishes for @MizzouWrestling

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Another weekend, another successful trip for Mizzou Wrestling as eight #TigerStyle grapplers had top-3 finishes in two different tournaments. Mizzou had six top-3 finishes at the Maryville Kaufman Brand Open in Maryville, Mo., and two top-3 finishes at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich. Leading the way for the Tigers was redshirt junior 157-pounder Matt Lemanowicz and redshirt junior 133-pounder Zach Synon, who both took home first place titles at the Maryville Kaufman Brand Open.

Lemanowicz won all four of his matches on the way to the 157-pound title, earning a technical fall in the first round (18-1) over Shay Lauderdale of Missouri Baptist and a fall in the finals over Kevin Cooper of McKendree. Synon needed only three matches to capture his title in the 133-pound weight class, posting a technical fall in the quarterfinal (19-2) over Andrew Rettke of McKendree. Synon defeated Hunter Haralson of Lindenwood by way of decision, 7-1, in the finals.

In addition to Lemanowicz and Synon finishing atop their respective brackets, the Tigers had four other wrestlers finish in the top-3 at the Maryville Kaufman Brand Open.  Redshirt junior 141-pounder Matt Manley finished in second place, falling to Nat Rodriguez of Maryville in the final. Manley pinned his opposition in the first and second rounds before defeating fellow teammate, redshirt senior 141-pounder Le’Roy Barnes in the semifinal by decision, 2-1. Barnes, who won his second round match by technical fall (17-2), would go on to win the third-place match by fall (2:43) over Darren Wynn of McKendree. In the 125-pound weight class, sophomore Chase Brennan placed third, winning by route of a major decision, 10-1 over Jeremy Bellis of Missouri Valley. Redshirt freshman 133-pounder John Erneste fell to teammate Synon in overtime of the semifinals before winning the third-place match by medical forfeit.

At the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich., two Mizzou wrestlers grabbed top-3 finishes. Junior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee earned a second-place finish while freshman 133-pounder Jaydin Eierman placed third. Lavallee won three matches before falling in the final, including a 3-2 win over Sparty Chino of Ohio in the semifinals. Mizzou will wrestle Ohio on Dec. 13 in the opening home weekend of the season.
