I don't know his name but it was not Larry Smith. Larry and the vast majority of refs are very professional. My point was not to rip on the refs.

I just wanted to point out that the FHC coach may have been provoked by this particular ref based on how I've seen him act towards me and others in the past. It's a very natural reaction to get angry and defensive when someone pulls that.

Just a few thoughts on this thread.

Asking a wrestler their weight:

That may be nothing more than information gathering. It may not be sour grapes, just planning. If you watch high school and college wrestling, we are getting to the part of the season where weights are adjusted for the final run. Also, there are alot of wrestlers I ask what they are weighing to help start a conversation, nothing more than that. These are kids I have coached, or coached against regardless. Don't draw too much into the conversation, maybe it was friendly banter. I wasn't there so I can't say for sure.

As for the Coach and Ref:

I did not see what happened, but it was unfortunate. I know both the Ref and Coach and consider them both friends. Maybe it was a bad day for one of them. Neither the coach nor the ref has a regular history of this happening.

The ref was not Larry.

I thought about posting last night out of concern about calling a clubs coach out without a name. I was thinking there would be a guessing game about who it was, and the clubs coaches would be unfairly smited.

Instead the ref is being called out. Right now every ref in our area is being suspected of this. Just a thought.

This was a first for me at a weigh-in tournament. I had heard rumors that there were those questioning my wrestler's weight. Then, coming off the mat after the finals match, a parent or coach, not sure which...approached my son from behind to ask him how much he weighed. Not that we have anything to hide...especially at a weigh-in tournament, but first of all...I don't think any parent/coach should be directly confronting wrestlers from other programs. This should be done through coaches and/or tournament officials. Second, why would this even be an issue at a weigh-in tournament??? Doesn't everybody weigh-in??? I can understand if there were no official weigh-ins. But, seriously...why would this have even been asked? I thought that it was quite odd.

For the record, we checked in officially Friday night at the tournament site coming in exactly 2 lbs. under.
Its not uncommon for some clubs to enter kids a few pounds under their actual weight. Nor is it uncommon for 1 & 2 to be entered as 3 or 4's. In one tournament my youngest faced boys 20 lbs heavier then he was. When I questioned the people running the tournament I was told my son could handle the competition. My son was a first year wrestler at the time and got beat up pretty bad. I was a little upset and refused to allow my kids to return to that tournament the following years.

The club my kids wrestled at would take weights on Thursdays after practice and send those weights in. By Sunday the weights might not be exact but close enough.

ABN_RGR, you're referring to tournaments that do not have an actual weigh-in. In which, there are always questions and comments about weights.

However, that's not the case here. This was a weigh-in tournament. Every wrestler had to step on an scale and officially qualify for the division they registered for. In this case, you would not be wrestling anyone 20 lbs heavier, and there should be NO reason to question anyone's weight, right??? That's my question.

I've been attending youth tournaments for 4 years now and have never heard anyone question a wrestlers weight before at an actual weigh-in tournament. Especially a quality run tournament like MO. Challenge!

Default Bad Move on my part

Dan Seago is right on. After two days of a guilty conscience I have to reply one more time and apologize.

In my attempt to defend a coach who I thought was unfairly criticized, I brought my personal beef with an un-named official into it which did more harm than good. Clearly not a good move. My apologies.

I wouldnt sweat somebody asking how much your son weighed, take it as a compliment. Think of it as someone was impressed with him and wanting to know what weight class he was in, to be watched for later.

Default Knuckleheads

I did some research on this fool, hes a cop & on YouTube, I found out his name & where he works(which neither will be posted). Hes the officer that runs up to the prep. @ 2:39 he assaults him & @ 2:43 kicks him when hes down all after he put his HANDS UP!!, to surrender, but hes not the only one assaulting him when he surrendered. But I guess the prep. shouldn't have broken the law!!! I bet Steve Cross is proud of him, after all hes representing Fransis Howel Central.

HelterSkelter,
I'm not sure but it looked like when the first 2 officers approached the criminal he pulled his hands down. I'm guessing since there is no audio, that he was told to get down on the ground with his hands out but did not comply. The officer helped the criminal get to the ground as he was struggling with the other two officers.

Looks like after he was on the ground he continued to struggle and not put his hands out for the officers and it took about 7 or 8 officers complete the arrest.

Did I miss something? I'm glad you left the link to the video. The criminal just took the police on a high speed chase endangering everyone involved and the general public. If he had killed someone you probably would have blamed the cops for that.

Maybe you should have just said thank you to him for his service to protect the public and your a$$ from the CRIMINAL.
