Yes, I said predicament. I am Old School

No specified time, the top man just needs to prove he is holding him there "against his will" so to speak.

I don't know, that answer came from the rules interpreter. He is a very knowledgeble official. I don't agree with some of his unofficial hand signals tho.

I am counting to 7 from here on out.

If you don't wait a specified time, How do you prove the offensive wrestler is holding him there "against his will" ? I have seen officials start their count as soon as the defensive wrestler exposes his back.

You don't have to PROVE anything, the term "Control is felt more than seen" comes to mind here. If, in the official's OPINION, the offensive wrestler is HOLDING the defensive wrestler in near fall criteria, a near fall count should begin.

So, if the defensive wrestler initiates a move and exposes his back to criteria, you would wait to begin counting near fall. Once you "perceive" the offensive wrestler has stopped the initiative of the defensive wrestler and is now holding him in the near fall criteria, you would begin to see a near fall count.

There is no set time here, it is a feeling, opinion, or perception of the official.

    I hope this helps.

P.S. I would give that interpreter a break. It was his first year on the job. Besides, I tried to give him the benefit of all my wisdom!!!

"PROVE" was your terminology. You have answered my question and I appreciate your time in doing so. I do understand the rule and it's application better. Thanks again.
