    Missouri AAU State Wrestling Tournament
    February 26, 2012

    A wrestler must be a current registered AAU member and attend school in the State of Missouri to be eligible to compete in the Missouri AAU State Wrestling Championships.

    Admission is $5. Seven (7) and under are free.
    AAU certified coaches must show their coaches card and photo I.D. for admission.

    Gold Division: For wrestlers with less than one (1) year experience.
    Blue Division: Open to any competitor meeting age requirement but is intended for wrestlers with more than one (1) year experience.

    Gold division wrestlers will be grouped within the AAU mandated 12% allowance. Eight person brackets will be used in the Gold division, whenever possible.

    Blue division and High School wrestlers must weigh-in at their scheduled time and make their “scratch weight” with no weight allowance.

    Wrestlers are required to weigh-in with a singlet and hair cover (if necessary). There will be no early or late weigh-ins and no changing weight classes. Please put exact weight for Blue division heavyweight wrestlers.

    Double elimination, MSHSAA (Folk Style) match rules will apply. Length of bouts for Bantam, Midget, Novice (1,1,1). Schoolboy, Cadet and High school (2,1,1). Only AAU certified wrestling coaches allowed on mats.

    Sunday, February 26 @ 9:00 A.M. -Wrestling begins for the Gold division.
    Sunday, February 26 @ 1:00 P.M. -Wrestling begins for the Blue division.

    The Blue division seeding meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Crestview Middle School, 16025 Clayton Rd., Ellisville, MO 63011, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm.

    The Gold division will be grouped into brackets by actual weight, not seeded.

    The High School division will be randomly drawn into brackets, not seeded.

    Weigh-ins will be Saturday only. Weigh-ins will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Crestview Middle School gymnasium, 16025 Clayton Rd., Ellisville, MO 63011, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Check the tournament website for potential alternate weigh-in sites and times.

    Team and Individual entries accepted. DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2012. Changes of weight/age classes will be accepted for a $25 fee until 12:00 P.M. on Monday FEBRUARY 20, 2012. Entrants and brackets will be posted on Expect email confirmations. If not received, please email for confirmation.

    The entry fee is $25 per wrestler. All wrestlers must be currently registered with the National AAU.

    Send rosters via email to Preferred method of submitting roster is an Excel spreadsheet. An example can be found at Payment must be made prior to the Seeding meeting on Tuesday, February 21 with one check made payable to “Missouri AAU State.”

    Must register and pay online at Click on MO AAU state and then registration. Individuals registering this way will not be associated with a team and will be considered unattached. The tournament will not accept mail registration for individuals.

    Gold Division - Medals to top 6 wrestlers.
    Blue Division - Trophy to Champion and medals for 2nd -6th.
    Blue Division - Plaque for “Most Falls by Champion” in each age group. The Champion with the most falls wins the plaque. Tiebreaker will be determined by the shortest combined time.

    Blue division team scores are based on the top 6 places in each bracket. 6 points for 1st, 5 points for 2nd …. ,1 point for 6th.

    1)This event is sanctioned by the Amateur Athletic Union of the U.S. Inc.
    2)All participants must have a current AAU membership.
    3)AAU membership must be obtained before the competition begins except where the event operator has a laptop available with an internet connection. Participants are encouraged to visit the AAU website to obtain their memberships.

    Before any comments are made about the change in cost... all the BonHomme wrestling families have been told to come up with a sponsor (or donate $$ toward sponsorship) to help keep costs down. We are part of the wrestling community and understand the expenses because we all have kids that wrestle.

    Changing venues was a big deal, and the purpose was to make AAU State a better experience for all. Yes, there was a big glitch that occurred in the first year... people are working hard to make sure everything runs smoothly this year. And we are all trying to do what we can to make this event affordable for everyone else who participates.

    I hope people give this new location another shot. It would be a shame for the kids' sake to have good competition stay home.

    Is it correct that Gold wrestlers do not have to weigh-in, will not be put in set weight classes and will only be put in 8 man brackets?

    I know in the past they have used the established weight classes and brackets were bigger if needed.

    What is the reason for the change?

    The one thing we like about the big 3 AAU tournaments is the large brackets.

    The other thing is that weigh-ins and actual weight classes go a long way towards maintaining the integrity and insuring the honesty of all those involved.

    I just hope we have a back up plan ready to go ,as far as the computers printing bout cards, reason for my concern is that EVERY bilikens basketball game i have watched this year they have had stoppage due to electrical difficulties , sounds like we are heading down the same rd. , but i know bonhome will be on it, they might let everybody know they have a back up plan! and thanx again to bonhome for stepping up and getting our state meet in a great building

    We have learned a lot from last year, and are having weekly meetings to make sure all bases are covered.

    In regard to the concerns about the Gold division, this is where a lot of breakdown occurred last year. Gold wrestlers will weigh in, however they will be grouped in 8 man brackets within 12% of their weight as mandated by AAU. We are running 8 man brackets to make certain the tournament runs smoothly. If you are a fan of the larger brackets and your wrestler does well in the beginners bracket, I would suggest wrestling them in the Blue division.

    We are having a special section of seating to get all wrestlers lined up by bracket and for coaches as well. This will be considered the bullpen. I encourage coaches and parents to review the board and postings as we near the tournament. We will have the first call to the bullpen 30 minutes prior to starting wrestling time. There is a very efficient plan in place to ensure smooth running of the tournament.

    The initial brackets and bout cards will be printed out via computer, however we are going to complete the brackets and complete the additional bout cards old school and do them manually. This way if a computer crashes it will not have any effect on the tournament.

    Although we know that not everybody can be pleased, we are striving to have a tournament that the majority will have nothing but positive comments to make. We are loooking forward to hosting the tournament and setting a standard for the future of AAU state.

    Please note the edit to my last post. Gold wrestlers will all weigh-in, however they do not have to make a set weight. We will be putting their brackets together after weigh-ins, and post them at the Chaifetz prior to wrestling.

    In regard to remote weigh-ins, if you are interesting in setting one up please contact myself or one of the other contacts on the AAU State Flyer. It will have to be set-up for late Saturday afternoon or early Saturday evening. You must have an official and high school wrestling coach present at the weigh-in and sign-off on the weights, and be able to email this information to one of the contacts within 30 minutes from the close of weigh-ins listed on the AAU State flyer. If this is coordinated, it will be posted on this website as far as time, meeting location, etc.

    Are there still no options for a remote Liberty weigh-in?

    It would be a shame if kids have to opt out of AAU State because it conflicts with the only real national tourney hosted within the state. I applaud the venue change and the desire to make the event bigger, but will that purpose be accomplished if the event is missing some of the top kids ?
