The Purlers could ride.

Correct me if I'm wrong THfzn, but I believe Nick turned Sam Henson when they were a Sr and a Jr.

You almost have to go back to pre-90's for this topic. before stalling became so prevalent and everyone went to the take-em-down, let-em-up strategy.

Charlie Sheretz probably should get a lot of credit for popularizing this strategy.

There has to have been someone out there who was wicked with the Legs in. I know at FHN they used to ride the legs a lot. (speaking of which, Jason Sexton was dangerous on top. I'm sure he dislocated a few shoulders in his day.)

Duncan from Trenton was tough as nails with the legs.

eagle,

I don't remember Purler ever turning Henson, most matches were low scoring affairs with Purler winning the takedown battle.

Henson and Purler were some of the first guys I saw let guys up and take them down, I remember thinking, "Why are they giving the guy a point?" the whole idea seemed strange to me. Of course, I never once let a guy up from bottom while in high school, but your right stalling was not called as much from the top position at that time.

some others ....

From FZN

Matt Cantrell and Josh Hauk

Whitmeyer (sp) from Platte County, the guy could cradle anyone.

Brockman from Park Hill

It was pictured on the front page of the journal. Sammie had moved up to wrestle the match. I think it was a tilt, and Sammie had this paniced look on his face.

Anyone else remember that?

The best "rider" I think I've ever seen (in high school) was Shaon Fry.

I watched a few matches of Ryan Banning last year in little league and have also seen him several times this year. He is a monster on top - tilts and cradles like you would not believe. Some of his moves are college level stuff. He may not be the best wrestler at his weight, but I would bet that he has not had many escapes.
