I'm sure this question has probably been asked and answered before, but with DirecTV, does anyone know if CSTV is part of the basic package, or if you have to buy the sports pack to get it? The sports pack is like $12 extra per month I think, and I hate to spend that for one channel.

I have the CSTV package, which includes 5-6 additional college sports channels (i.e. Fox College Sports). For the most part, they all suck....but mine only costs $4.95 per month. I'm cancelling them after wrestling season. I did the same thing last year.

This is a an interesting topic (to me). I have dish TV and I don't get CSTV (as far as I can determine). I didn't realize that adding a sports package is only a few dollars.
In general I'm not much of a TV watcher, but I got Dish for the 2004 Olympics (partly to watch wrestling on all those "other" channels-- then it turned out that most wrestling was on the regular channel, but in the middle of the night). For the most part the Dish TV is terrible in that every time it gets slightly overcast I start to lose channels, and when it rains I'm down to the non-cable channels or no channels. Mostly I've been to lazy to cancel it. I'll never get Dish TV again.

I have DirecTV and have to pay an additional $12 for the sports package that has CSTV--channel 610. I too have the problems with the rain. Satellite is my only option for now but in the near future we all will have an option that the satellite/phone/cable companies are all ready worrying about. BPL--Broadband over powerlines. All you have to do is plug into the electrical outlet and you are where you want to be. Internet and phone access this way is all ready rolling out commercially in this country. TV services will shortly follow. Some think it is a bogus thought but it is here and ready to explode. Google--"Broadband over Powerlines" and see what pops up. Those who can invest in the new technology should. Did you ever wish you were on the ground floor with a company like Yahoo? Find a BPL company. I will jump on board this new tech once it is available in my area. It will also be cheaper as your local electrical company will be the one marketing it to you. IMHO

NorthCo do you have trouble with your reception like the Direct TV owners do on overcast and rainy days?

Not sure which package I have but CSTV is pretty solid as a channel. I have never had problems with my satellite exfcept for very hard rain like in a thunderstorm, cloudy, overcast and light rain give no problem. matter of fact in the last years I have only had problems like 3 times.
