I posted this in off topic but didnt get much of a response: Im sure you've all heard "I love food too much to wrestle" from a nonwrestler, this is the topic of a paper I am writing and would like to hear from some of your points of view on why you wrestle or did wrestle. Is it schoool tradition, family, friends, or something else? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

For me it started as just something to do in the winter because I didn't play basketball. After that, I got addicted to the competition.

guess you didn't see this-----this is all you need

WHY WRESTLE?

Wrestling prepares a person to fight the game of life.
The wrestler is the one athlete that must meet his opponent and do battle completely on his own;

No one can substitute: no time outs are possible.

He has no one to check, screen, block, or assist him in any way;

There is no one to blame for his mistakes.

When he wins, he must show quiet pride and modesty.

When he loses, the responsibility is his.

Wrestling is a true sport.

In other sports, when contact is made, they blow the whistle to stop the action;

In wrestling, when contact is made, we're just getting started.

The individual, through self-denial, offers more of his character than ever be explained here.

It is something he carries with him throughout life...

Through every trial, test, and tribulation wrestlers are battle-tested

I was too "physical" in basketball, and was told to try out for wrestling.

Best advice I ever took.

When will other coaches realize the benifits wrestling provides athletes when they compete in other sports...football, track, etc.

I started wrestling in 4th grade because I knew my dad was a big wrestling fan. I decided to try it out and always enjoyed it.

THERE IS ALWAYS SOME LAME EXCUSE FOR WEAKNESS... NOT WANTING TO CUT WEIGHT IS JUST ONE OF THE MANY.

YES WRESTLERS CUT OUT A TON OF FOOD, WRESTLERS WEAR ODD UNIFORMS, GET SKIN DISEASES, AND HOLD A WORLD OF PRESSURE ON THEIR SHOULDERS --ALL BY THEMSELVES... YET, IT'S ALL WORTH IT WHEN YOU LOOK INTO THE BEATEN EYES OF YOUR BLEEDING OPONENT, STANDING IN THE CENTER OF THE MAT WITH THE OFFICIAL RAISING YOUR HAND AND NOT HIS.
