Should be a great match.
Both are good kids, and I'm glad to see Cabot turn his life around.

mrvcfan - care to expound on the reff'n in that match?
Holy crap! Here's my thought.......let the wrestlers decide the match....not some worthless, old, fat ref who decided who was going to win that match before it started. There's a big problem when the referee can't distinguish the difference between 2 state champions going at it and a "B pool" match.
Here's another another question I have..........how does one put someone on their back w/ 3 seconds still on the clock and NOT GET BACKPOINTS? Someone please explain that to me.....

Who was put on their back? Yust or Long?

Long locked up cradle on Yust w/ about 6 seconds left, put him on his back w/ 3 seconds left.......on no nearfall. If you want to know the truth, Yust was flat as a pancake. The, who is fat and seriously out of shape, couldn't get into position to see the fall, but should have easily had the mental faculty to count nearfall.
What a rip-off.
I just hope the kid from Branson, Kiiedon Stephens, is ok. That was scary.

Yust went to his back with 2 seconds left, the ref started his count at 1, and no backs were awarded. It was very close.
I thought that the second stalling call on Long was questionable, and the illegal hold started out legal and then the hand slid up to illegal. Most refs will call that P.D. instead of illegal.

I'm not taking anything from Yust, because he did wrestle a good match, but that fat piece of crap, bald ref screwed it all up. That illegal move should have been a PD, I never seen either wrestler stall, and Long had Yust on his back at least 2.5 seconds.
Besides all of that, one of the biggest points in the match was when long got that reversal and put Yust on his back for 3 pts. Damn! I want the DVD!

This was an awesome match, great atmosphere and action. I was under the impression that stalling occurred when the wrestler was not working to improve, not when the wrestler was attempting various pinning combinations. And I will also say this, I was sitting directly accross the gym from Fudge, and Yust looked pretty flat from that side as well (he wasn't getting out...that cradle was tight). I also was shocked when no nearfall was given. As far as the penalty point, I couldn't see what happened, so I can't comment. I don't want to take anything away from Yust, because when it went to O.T. I said he was going to win because he looked better on his feet, but I hate to see a match decided by an official, which in my opinion, is what happened today.

the ref only got a one count but he also blew his whistle with one second left on the clock. the illegal hold should have been and would have been a pd at state or any other tourn. with decent refs

Q: Who was the Mystery Ref? (We can name names here!!)
Q: What was the score going to OT? (Yes, I know it was tied, so spare us the smart a.s.sed answers)
Q: Tell us more about Longs reversal for 5..what move was it, when in the match?
Q: What happened to Stephens from Branson that was so scary?

1. tried to find out his name.....couldn't. I even asked him after the match and he wouldn't even look at us. What a coward.
2. score going into overtime, I believe, was 7-7.
3. Long just reversed him straight to his back and managed to hold him there for about 5.1 seconds. Don't know what the actual "move" was.
4. Didn't see exactly what happened to Stephens. He was taken down in the first period by the Ex Springs kid and was being ridden. I looked away for a minute, and the next thing he (Stephens) was laying motionless on the mat. The EMTs were called in....he was administered and I.V., oxygen and his hands were taped together...then he was taken out on a stretcher. As far as I could tell, he was not conscious the entire time and laid completely motionless.

I just got off the phone with Don Stephens and he said Kiiedon was ok this morning. They are not sure what caused him to collaspe, but please keep him and his family in your prayers. Everyone knows what a good wrestler Kiiedon is and Don has done so much behind the scenes to promote wrestling in the Branson and southwest MO area that all who know them will be praying for answers and a quick recovery. My thoughts:
1. Padley needs to pick it up heading towards state. I know that most of the kids he wrestled were from bigger classes, but I'm sure he did not expect to finish out of the medals. He's still my pick for class 1 though.
2. Where was the rest of the Branson team? They were probably missing 4 or 5 regulars.
3. 135 and 140 were loaded.
4. The Centralia 125 kid should have been DQ'ed from the tourny for flagrant misconduct. The first headbutt that split the P. Hill kid open was borderline. But the 2nd and 3rd ones which split him open further and caused Centralia to get DQ'ed from the match were blatant.
5. Stephens was concious while being attended to by the EMT's. He was answering questings which they were asking him.
6. The seating in the second gym was poor. Need more than a couple of rows of folding chairs for a varsity tournament.
7. Odessa does a good job running the tournament to get the best matchups. This is almost like state, where you know that almost every kid in the A pool is going to get tough matches, with very few overmatched opponents.
8. Were any team scores kept? I know that it would be difficult with this type of format.
9. Even though they didn't wrestle their best, Higginsville could easily win Class 1 if they have a good state tournament. Studs at 135, 140, 160, and 171. And possible point scorers at 130, 145, 189, and 215.

1. Agree on Padley....I think he was a little tired after 2 tough matches against Seneca and P Hill when he wrestled Ex Springs. It looked like Taylor wanted it more. I think Graham will be fine @ state, though
4. Ya, that was pretty bad. The 189 lbr from Odessa should have be DQ'd from the tournament also for head butting.
8. Not sure if there are teams scores kept for a "A" and "B" pool type tournament.
9. I think Higg will do well at state....just not sure if they're deep enough to win the team title. It will be fun to watch at state...I think it will be a 3 team race for the title, w/ 3 more competing for the last trophy.

I probably had the best view of the end of this match as anyone in the gym, as I was sitting in the front row right on the SW corner of the mat, which is where Yust wound up on his back in the final seconds. To be fair, things happened REAL fast & it's possible the ref just couldn't get down fast enough (though I don't think he really tried) to see that Yust's shoulders were flat on the mat for a good three seconds. I was an impartial observer with no loyalty to one wrestler or team, though this was the match that attracted me to come. And I was sitting no more than 20 feet, probably less, from the action and could plainly see that Yust was pinned. Having given the ref the benefit of the doubt on not seeing the fall, it is unforgivable for him not to have counted back points. The match never should have gone to overtime (and don't even get me started on the phantom stalling calls on Long), period. Yust is an incredible wrestler & I don't want to take anything away from him, but having seen the match, I would have to say that Long is clearly better and that, in my mind, he won the match. So I'd certainly put an asterisk next to Yust's unblemished record and long unbeaten streak.
I also noticed two people with video-cameras sitting on the edge of the mat right in front of me. I am certain that they could verify everything I'm saying, but I think they were both from Seneca, so it's likely those tapes are being guarded closer than George Bush's photos with Jack Abramoff.
It's too bad these two fine wrestlers are in different classes; it'd be great to see a rematch in Columbia.

Great tournament run by Odessa.
Kiiedon is doing great. He dehydrated from exhaustion and a bout with the flu. He was released from the hospital by the end of the tourney after receiving an IV.
As for the rest of Branson's team, they stayed home with flu like symptoms.
Kiiedon obviously caught what the rest of our team had.
Robbins, Miller, Melton, Mrotek, Osborne were all out.
Thanks for your concern about Kiiedon.
