Congratulations to the following Purler Wrestling Academy Students on a job well done at the 51st annual Tulsa Nationals. If you are not going to the Tulsa Nationals or Liberty Nationals....then you are missing out! We feel that hittng the TN or Liberty events are worth about 6 months of practice room improvement. This is why Purler Wrestling takes so many wrestlers to this event. In fact, of the ENTIRE Tulsa Nationals Rosters, Purler Wrestling Students accounted for a whopping 6.7% of the entire entries...the most of any team in America for the 3rd year running. Our students will be at the Liberty event as well. Here's a quick rundown of our student's results:

Great job guys. We are proud of you and your hard work is paying off.
High School Wrestling:
Our HS training sessions will begin Feb 20th....see you there. For info you can certainly contact us at one of our websites ( http://www.purlerwrestling.com http://www.foundationwrestling.com http://www.tonypurler.com )
Camps:
Our summer camps have began to fill...it starts about January each year. So far we have dedicated wrestlers from PA / NJ / MI / MO / IL / KS / IA / OK and CT signed up to come with high school teams using our summer TAKEDOWN MACHINE TRAINING CAMP as their team camp from Cary Grove, IL (3rd straight summer) and St .Rita (?) in S. Chicago. Also, a team from SC called and is getting info together. Needless to say, with just 40 wrestlers per workout group, one call from a high school coach with 25 members and a camp can literally fill up in a day...and they often do.
Our summer camp has carried a waiting list in each of the past 5 years we've held it. Don't be left out.
Last year we had kids from all 4 corners attend....AK to NH to CA to FL and all inbetween. Should be great training once again this summer.
Many of you that attended our Christmas Break training camps received flyers on camp....please double check as the dates are now up and running on Purler Wrestling.com. We had over 200 students travel in for our 7th annual Winter Break Training Camps and I have solidified dates for a 4 day camp NEXT Christmas time so we can have an overnight, 4 day intensive...details to follow in the coming months on this.
Thanks and good luck to ALL wrestlers as the high school season winds down and the youth series just begins to peak. Tony and I wish you luck!
Sincerely,
Nick Purler

Great work and congrats Purler... I've never seen a wrestler go to Purler practices or camps and not come out a much better wrestler... You're a great teacher of both wrestling skills and mentality.. I for one have nothing but respect for you and when I have kids they're gonna be Purler wrestlers.

I have little league kids going to his practice once a week and they come back doing a bunch of JUNK.
Examples?
Another thing Purler, I saw you leaning over the railing at state about 2-3 years back during the finals screaming "you're screwing my kid" repeatedly to the ref. and I about lost it. You did not recruite that kid walking down the hallwway at school. You did not make sure that his grades didn't keep him off the team. You did not make sure that he made weight for every match. You did not make sure that he was in the weight room every day on the off season. You did not make sure he was going to freestyle tournamnets in the off season. You did not show him how to be that specific opponent that next round at state. You did not tell him to take top or bottom. And you did NOT put the hardware around his neck on the stand. I do know who did and it was NOT you.
Junk moves dont have names dork.

Purler knows his stuff, he was a very accomplished wrestler and he does a lot for our wrestling community here in Missouri. Thank you Nick for your hard work.

I have had the privalege of getting to know Tony, watch him coach, interact with the kids, both youth and high school and he is a truely great at his sport. I believe his accomplishments speak for themselves and I highly doubt he got where he is through "junk". He has coached several of our youth wrestlers and given clinics to both our youth and high school kids and all come away with a better bag of tricks. Again, the list of Purlar champions speaks for itself. He has been mat side with some of our kids at Freestyle matches and helps them at every tourney they are in. In 30 plus years in this sport, I have seen it change a great deal. Tony and Nick are always at the cutting edge. Did not see many low singles till J Smith brought that "junk" to the mat. Maybe your just behind the times and should open your mind a little to new and better stuff. Those who do not study and train with the best will be beaten by the best.

Tony and Nick,
Congrats and keep up the great work. You are raising the bar for Missouri wrestling and you are alway welcome back to our wrestling room. My kids are happy to study with you and learn some more "junk"

I guess going through life with a name like Hank has given you a huge
inferiority complex. Purler has forgotten more about wrestling then you'll ever know...If the coaches in this state weren't so insecure about their jobs he would be sitting in the corner ,instead of leaning over a rail..

They could get a teaching degree and apply for a job just like all the other coaches do!

Plenty of assistants aren't teaching....That shouldn't keep them from coaching. Most parents scream at their kids from the stands offering advise. The reason coaches don't want them (Purler's) to is because of their Inflated EGO.........

Maybe they only have a desire to teach wrestling. If you coach in high school, you teach a class (which could be PE or something easy even though alot of coaches teach major classes) and your "second" job is coaching a sport if you have that desire.
I think their talents are better used by only teaching wrestling. And I would say they make good money doing it since their classes fill up fast. So that shows how good they are. Actions speak better than words.

I was going to say something meaner but let me just say you obviously have NOO idea what you are talking about in this case
I dont know who you are or where you coach but if you dont like your kids going to purler tell them not to go plain and simple...
HOWEVER
I myself have attended purler and have many friends and know many other wrestlers who have attented Purler and I challenge you to find one single Purler wrestler who is not a good wrestler....What Junk moves do you refer to? I find the moves that purler taught to be Very effective all of them are high percentage moves and as purler will tell you they even work at an NCAA level
the very least you could do is attend a purler session before you say these things....heck less than half the practice is him teaching moves( though that time is put to good use) there is a TON of live wrestling if nothing else this is GREAT mat time
as to Purler leaning over the rail yelling im not sure i believe that...
A. I once tried to stand right by the railing for a long period of time and I was forced to sit down
B. If you were coaching how did you witness this?
C. Purler puts a lot of time into the kids he teaches so he has plenty of reason to be concerned about what is happening to them

Mr. Stewie, Any time you want to meet on the mat, i will show up and show you how much i forgot. i've been coaching longer than you have been an idiot.

It sounds like the only idiot involved in this discussion is hank- must be going through the change. I have a better suggestion for you, hank. Why not meet one of the Purlers on the mat? Of course, they have too much class to stoop to such a thing; evidently you don't. I have known Nick and Tony for years and have been at tournaments all around the state and nation with them over the past four years. I have never witnessed the behavior you say you have witnessed. They took my son from a mere state qualifier at the Mo/USA State Folkstyle Championships to multiple state championships at the previously mentioned tournament, multiple state championships at the AAU state tournament, multiple state championships at the MO/USA State Freestyle and Greco Tournaments; multiple national championships, top two finishes at Tulsa Nationals, Reno, and several others. They did for my son what his little league coaches could not. His success in the sport today can be attributed to the Purlers, plain and simple. My son is just one example among myriads of others of what Nick and Tony have done for kids in this sport since starting their academy. Perhaps if you were doing a better job, your wrestlers would not find it necessary to seek out Nick and Tony's help. But, alas, I will stop. By writing this, I have already violated one of my principles in life: Never argue with an idiot. Mark Twain once wrote, "Never argue with an idiot; some people might not be able to tell the difference." In this case, the difference is obvious.

This Purler bashing is so ridiculous - I can't even find anything suitable to say. It's too bad some people can't see what true talent really is. I have the utmost respect for the Purlers. You always find people bashing them, but you will NEVER hear Nick or Tony bashing anyone. They have more class than that.

Hank, I wrestled for tony for a year before i went to highschool and i have to say that he made me so good on my feet that i rarely ever get taken down. And besides that he showed me tons of ways to avoid getting scored on and giving up cheap stuff and JUNK moves. Is it really a crime to care about a kid that you have spent time with teaching him a great sport when he's obviously not getting fair treatment by a ref?

This isn't even a debate. Everyone who's been been involved with Purler Wrestling, Tony or Nick, can and will attest to their expertise in sharing a highly developed degree of knowledge, technique and skill to hundreds, if not thousands of wrestlers in our state and across the nation. I would not hesitate to send my own son back to, or recommend to anyone else to either of these extremely experienced coaches and teachers.
Hank - can your comments already no one else agrees with you, if you haven't been able to figure that out yet.
whatever

What the Purler's are doing for Missouri wrestling is amazing but I do have a suggestion to Nick & Tony.
We help raise funds for wrestles that can't afford the cost for youth wrestling cards, tournament fees & travel. For parents out there that have put a kid through youth & High School tournaments, we could buy a new home from the cash we've put out. Many kids out there deserve the equal training their opponents get from Purler's but don't have the money to do this, not by fault of their own. With these camps costing hundreds, just a few hours session costing 80.00, these kids are left to learn from what's available in their area.
Maybe you could start a scholarship program for kids who are from a lower income. Show that it's not all about the money but for the love of the sport. We sent our son to your Christmas clinic and were impressed. Our son was worn out but filled with enough knowledge he couldn't wait for his next match. I saw all the parents that made the long drive like we did, counted the heads and the cost and knew there was a good chunk being paid that day. I thought of all the kids that would have loved to come but knew the money wasn't available and I felt guilty.
I'm sure every parent that's gone through the whole gambit of wrestling. from youth on ,has seen a kid that had such potential if only the right person would train them. We call them naturals. Take a natural, very coach-able kid and let someone like Nick or Tony train them and you've got a National Champion with colleges knocking on his door. Take the money away and you have a wrestler winning some local tournaments and if he's lucky he will end up in a high school with a coach that can take him to a level to compete at State.
It's just a suggestion but it comes from the heart.
