A. Let Foust wrestle, Redshirt Max.
B. Let Max wrestle, Foust is out a spot.
C. Let Max wrestle, Foust wrestle HWT. redshirt two freshmen.

Foust will wrestle 197 this year. Max is redshirting.
If you remember, MU didn't have a true 174 lbr. Ben's freshman year. Sioredas wrestled there, and was probably a 157 lbr that year. Ben could have easily wrestled that weight, but redshirted, which was best for him. Max will do the same, and come in next year as a highly ranked 197 lbr.

I agree with Fudge 100% that (A) is the correct answer (at least as I see it). Let Ben acclimate further to college life, learn more wrestling, and mature more physically. Then unleach him on the rest of the country. Frankly, I think this is the best for essentially all freshman. The last few years we've several examples of freshmen (AND redshirt freshmen) who started out strong, only to fade in the latter part of the very long college wrestling season.
I wonder, however, if Max will wrestle this weekend in the Open or Under 20 group. I'm guessing that the best competition will come from: Foust (MU), Byrd (IL), Richardson (IN), Wright (OD). Tyrone Byrd is a tough customer, one who tends to keep it close. He beat something like 5 AAs last season. Come to think of it (and based on the one match that I've seen Ben wrestle), Byrd's tactical, cautious approach might be a tough match-up with Max. Hope to see it.

I agree with Fudge. Redshirt Max just like Ben was his Freshman year.
After beating Flaggert and Foust twice, I would certainly hope that Max would be in the Open division.
BTW Fudge, it was good to meet you at the CMSU Open.

Well, 2 national runner-up finishes in 1st 2 years is a pretty tall order. I do, however, think Max will do very well in college.

For all of those wondering if Max is going to wrestle on Sunday at the Mo Open the answer is yes. There is a Freshman-Sophmore Tournament along with the Varsity level tournament. From my understanding the Freshman-Soph tournament will start and wrestle up to the semi's and then the Varsity level wrestlers will begin. They will have 10 mats and once the Varsity gets to semi's then they will run 5 mats per group. Wrestling begins at 9:00 am. Hope this bit of information will help.

Do you really have 93 socks? Did you lose one in the laundry?
The last few years at the MU Open, they've begun the with the younger guys, wrestled for an hour or two, and then got going with the Open part. For the most part it is difficult to follow until they get to the semi-finals of the Open tournament. However, the mat number are called out when the wrestlers get their assignments, so if there is an early round or consolation match that you specifically want to watch you can get to that. Also, last year they updated the brackets that they hung on the walls quite often, which was impressive and very helpful. All things considered, for a field house with terrible accoustics and inconvenient seating, the tournament is good. And if there is a wrestler that you want to talk to, well, you have all day.

Then should'nt Jeremy Spates and Brett Watkins should have been redshirted to. I would have liked to see Spates in one more season.

Jeremy Spates did redshirt - 00-01 season. He turned 25 his senior season.
Smith had to decide between Watkins and TMac for redshirt that year. He made the right decision.
