Does anyone know what the format for this tournament will be?

From the schedules it appears the following teams will be in this tournament: CBC, Columbia RockBridge, Desmet, Eureka, Fort Zumwalt North, Fox, Francis Howell North, Jefferson City, and Marquette.

I am assuming there probably is a 10th team, does anyone know what school it is?

Greg - In the past the format has been a 2 pool RR. The 1st in pool A wrestles the 1st in pool B and so on. I don't remember how the pools are determined. I can't think of another team that was there. It might only be 9 teams.

those were the pools last year. Are you sure those are the same pools again?

The pools will be the same as last year. Wrestling will start at 9:30. We will be using four mats. We will do the first 3 rounds, then take a lunch break. We will wrestle the fourth round take a short break (long enough to make the bout cards) before the medal round.

JustaMom I hate to tell you this but your twins really remind me of my two at that age. I can only say that you have my sincerest sympathy. It doesn't get better until they get much older and really it doesn't get better but only transforms into something new.

What you have to do at wrestling tournaments with twins is just go with the flow. I finally learned that with my two at USA State when they were ten. Most of the time by the end of a wrestling tournament if the twins won anything I just wanted them to get whatever they won and go home. I was way to tired too even think about it as that I was always worn out keeping them out of trouble. USA State that year was different because for the only time they co-champed. I had remembered that Mr. Graham had told me one his proudest moments was when Brian and Eric took first and second (co-champs), and one of his favorite pictures was them on top of the podium together. Really for the only time I was looking forward to the actual awards ceremony. What do Matt and Nick do? They get on top of the podium and fight over the bracket sheet, basically embarrassing our whole family in front of the whole state little league community. What was worse was that I was frozen to the side of the podium because they were trying to take the placers pictures. While I am standing there facing the stands I can see them out of the corner of my eye fighting and I am hearing the crowd laughing. After that incident I think I just didn't worry about it much anymore LOL. I guess what I am trying to break to you is that it doesn't ever get better.

Good luck to Kyle at State.

Greg - I actually remember Matt & Nick at USA State that year. I thought it was cute then. In fact, I always got a kick out of them. I thought they were wonderful and still do and I have always loved to watch them wrestle. It was great seeing them again... well except for one match. LOL
I poked fun at Kyle that he wasn't they only one to get whopped by a twin, but at least I lasted longer and I was tag teamed. :P

The offer I made you yesterday is still on the table. You guys did a great job and survived. I question if we will.

Tournament results for ranking committee..

145lb Tulley over Izzy 6-3
171lbs Eisenmayer over Dietz- 10-8
140lbs Martinez over Kemp 2-1

112lbs Bunch went 1-3 on the day Lester, Jeff City, and Howell North all beat him. He looked flat, but he is a 2nd year wrestler

103lb Spencer just was released by doctor from an early season injury and placed 2nd to Muery of Fox by a fall

On a side note...
Those lester boys could easily be both ranked #1. What amazing wrestlers and kids. They are polite and nice kids. One of them came up to Bunch and complemented him after he lost his last match and even gave him a few words of encouragement. Class Acts.

119 Lester should be #1 IMO
BUT 112 Lester has Donte Butler in his class
Butler is #5 in the nation I believe
while I do think That he WILL be at or above that level later in his career I do not know wheter or not he is at that level now
I think that should be a VERY good match but to say both could be EASILY ranked #1 is not accurate IMO

it was actually a real close match went 0-0 at end of first 1-0 Graham escape at end of second 1-1 Smith got 1 point for Graham stalling with less than 10 seconds Graham locked up a craddle for 2. Final 3-1 Graham [/quote]

I saw and talked with the Mears boys at Tulsa Nationals a couple of weekends ago. They are in Texas and doing fine. Chris is wrestling for Monday and I think finished 6th at TN in 15/89. Kyle is not wrestling right now as he tore his shoulder up and is still having problems with it. Not sure what high school he is attending.

LOL, LOL sad but true. That being said, I can tell you Nick's win streak has been snapped because he and I were wrestling in the basement and I pinned him. I had the legs in which he shook off and then I got him with a far side cradle LOL. He didn't know his old and slow old dad still had it in him. Of course he claims the around 80 lbs he was giving up was the cause of his loss but what does he know. It took me a day to recover but it was worth it.

Kyle can't take me yet although he would like to think he can. I'm just too big (by about 100 pounds) and strong for him although I do have to be a little careful as he can (and will) hurt me if he gets the chance. We were messing around earlier in the year and he had a bodylock and I was going to throw him with a whizzer and an elevator but as I turned he drove his fist into my ribs. Don't know if it broke some, separated or what but it hurt to just breathe for a couple of weeks. He was pretty proud of that one.

Up until I tore up my knee this summer playing ball, I used to try to get on the mat with the high school guys whenever I could during off season. I can't go hard for very long but it's still pretty fun.

Greg
01-31-2006, 12:01 PM
Gary it is amazing how strong they are getting isn't it?

Greg
01-31-2006, 12:07 PM
Gary I told Nick that whatever place he gets at State (assuming he does place), for him to remember that his dad would have placed in the spot above him. LOL I really hopes he wins it all so I can know I beat the state champ.
