1 Park Hill
2 Raymore-Peculiar
3 St. Charles West
4 Hannibal
5 Neosho
6 Ft. Zumwalt North
7 Eureka
8 Farmington
9 Carthage
10 Helias
I would like to hear some possible lineups if any one has any info.
Does anyone think that any of these teams or any not mentioned has the a strong enough lineup to beat Park Hill?

I'm not sure any team can beat Park Hill. I think that Ray-Pec has a shot at it but a long one. Ray-Pec typically produces more qualifiers than most schools but it doesn't always equate to more medalists. PH has 5 returning placers and RP only has 3. Then again, Hannibal and SCW probably won't be too far behind, either. I look for PH to be a near lock for first, RP for second and a good battle between 3 or 4 schools for third. This is just my opinion based on the little that I know.

Eureka will be nails next year as well, i could see them at 4th place. They are getting the Lester twins who are nails. They have 2 returning state finalists and 4 other qualifiers.
farmington has 5 returning state placers with newland zaricor wilson epstien and hoehn plus both wisdoms they could give park hill a run for it

my guess is that Park Hill should go something like this
103
112 Rob Waters
119 Ryan Baker
125 Matt Bender
130
135 Corey Carr
140 Corbin Cleavenger/ Brett Moyer
145 Eric Graham
152 Brian Graham
160 Robbie Hicklin
171
189 John Smaltz
215 Kyle Rose
HWT Chris Miller
CMSU34 what freshman/transfers is St. Charles West getting next year that caused you to rank them so high, especially above Hannibal? I am not asking this question to be critical, but only because I am curious. Overall I think your rankings are pretty good and that you have identified the top teams. My guess is that Farmington is ranked a little low especially considering they are getting both Wisdoms, however you never know how things are going to turn out. I think the conventional wisdom about Park Hill is probably right, they are going to be very strong. It is too bad we can't see how they match up aganist Oak Park or Zumwalt West at state. RayPec, Hannibal, and Farmington probably have the best chance to push Park Hill. There are three or four other teams such as Eureka, St. Charles West, etc. that could break into the top four. Of course once the season starts injuries, weight issues, grades, etc. may impact some of the line-ups and allow other teams not identified above to sneak into the top five or top ten. It should be a great Class 3 tournament next February.

Greg, youre right SCW might be a little too high. they did lose 4 or 5 solid guys to graduation that i didnt consider. and for some reason i was thinking that the older hewitt was a junior
CMSU again my comment wasn't meant to be critical of your rankings, or as a slight to St. Charles West who I am sure will be very good next year, it was more a reflection of my read of Hannibal as being very strong. I could be wrong, but I think most of Hannibal's top kids are back, and I do know that they are getting some really good freshman at the lower weights.

I'm excited to see Corey Carr and Matt Dunbar and the Robbie Hicklin Andrew wood rematch if they are at the same weight. park hills 215 lbr placed 2nd last year and he was moved up from jv because schmaltz got hurt in football so im hoping that one of them can make weight at 189

The Top 10 teams based SOLELY on returning wrestlers and how they fared at State this past season.
Of course, many other factors will ultimately influence the eventual outcome such as Incoming Freshman (huge influence), weight gain from last season, Summer commitment to wrestling, coaching staff changes, injuries, grades, move-ins, move-outs, etc.
So, its obviously way too early to really make these kinds of projections. Just for fun and for discussion purposes, here is my projected Top 10 :
1. Park Hill - 106
2. Hannibal - 102
3. Farmington - 68.5
4. Ray-Pec - 49.5
5. Eureka - 49
6. Kearney - 46.5
7. Nixa - 40
8. Neosho - 31.5
9. Fort Zumwalt North - 30
10. St. Charles West - 24
If the numbers are anywhere near reality, we ought to witness an exciting team race between Park Hill and Hannibal for the Title.
In my opinion that is probably about right for a preseason poll. Park Hill and Hannibal are definitely the top incoming teams of Class 3. I think many of these teams are getting "impact freshman", so in some regards that may even out. All the teams you have listed from three to ten are capable of winning a top four trophy if things fall right for them.

Don't count Ozark out, remember they beat Nixa Head to Head, Finished second I belive in district (only to Neosho if I remeber correctly). They finished ahead of Carthage and Nixa in dist wrestling. They just need to get their heads right for state. if Coach Jackson can get his guys mentally prepared (they of talent) They will win dist, and place top 6 in state

wrestlingfan19 : Mears would have had to wrestle 119 next year because he can't beat the Lester twin's .
Kyle Mears will wrestle either in Virginia or Texas next year. That is a tough loss for Eureka because he is a quality kid and wrestler.

are you sure he couldnt beat Lesters?
Mears had a younger bro who was supposed to be better comin in too didnt he?
His younger brother is Chris Mears and he is in the 8th grade this year. The last comparison point I can give you for Chris is that he wrestled Ryan Banning at NHSCA this summer and beat Ryan 8-6 in the 93 lbs. bracket. From what I heard it was a great match.

08-04-2005, 12:36 PM
the older mears beat one of the lesters in the state finels 2 yrs ago it was a realy good match and i not for shore but i thaink he bet him one other time as well
If it is scores you want that is easy, Nick beat Kyle 6-1 in Freestyle at Cadet Duals and about the same in Greco in June 05. At USA Nationals in April 05 Nick pulled a miracle out of his butt and beat Kyle with a throw with about 20 seconds left. I think Kyle was up 3 or 4 at the time. Nick finished 3rd at USA Nationals and Kyle finished 5th beating Colin Pierce. Kyle beat Nick in I think 2OT at Cliff Keen last November. Nick and Kyle either tied or Nick won by one takedown (I can't remember which) at the Eureka takedown tournament in March 05. Matt last wrestled Kyle at 2004 Greco state and lost close. Before that Matt wrestled Kyle at the before mentioned USA State Championship. Make of those scores what you may.
I just remembered that Kyle and Matt have wrestled after May 2004. Kyle wasn't wrestling at Dixie Nationals (Dec 04) and his dad wanted an exhibition match, so Kyle and Matt wrestled between Matt's matches at Dixie Nationals. Kyle won 2-1.
I will say one word of caution to those who only have seen Kyle wrestle when he wrestled at high school state (or district). The Kyle Mears that wrestled there is not the same Kyle Mears that wrestled before or after that in my opinion. Kyle's family life was in turmoil in January and February and I believe it affected his wrestling big time. I am not trying to make excuses for Kyle since there were many other wrestlers wrestling under less than ideal circumstances (Donte Butler and his hand injury come to mind), however I am saying Kyle is much better than he showed. I think that point was proven when he beat Colin Pierce (the 103 champion in MO Class 3) for fifth at USA Nationals.

Sader I think People from ,Nixa ,Ozark, Branson would like to see all three teams in the top ten this year . I think it would show every one how hard our area is working to get better. I know your team will get some through the quarter finals this year and place.
sader35901
08-20-2005, 01:53 PM
There is no reason why all three teams can't place top ten. Ozark has the deepest line up, plus Coach Jackson really improved Ozarks schedule. It is brutal. Ozark is going to the Raytown tourn, Helias tourn and seckman. Of the top 5 toughest tourneys Ozark is in three of them.
Branson will do well with coach Gross, also getting Hall to be an asst is a huge plus. Branson just won't have the depth to beat Ozark in a dual, but with a few outstanding performances at state they can place top 6. It just depends on the draws.
Nixa has the best individual wrestles, but a lot like Branson they don't have the depth to beat Ozark head to head, But Because they should have two state champs, and maybe two more surprises they can rack up a lot of points at state. With the right draws and a few guys stepping up Nixa could finish as high as 3rd.
It looks real good for all three teams.
As far as Kids teams go, Ozark qualified the second most kids for state (only Fox)sent more) in my opinion Ozark has the best group of 6th and 7th graders of any program that feeds into a CL 3 school. Only Neosho could be better, But at our rate of improvement Ozarks 6th and 7th grades will be something really special when they are juniors and seniors.
This is all just my opinion

Sader35901 -
Coach Jackson really improved Ozarks schedule. It is brutal. Ozark is going to the Raytown tourn, Helias tourn and seckman. Of the top 5 toughest tourneys Ozark is in three of them.
When did the Seckman Tournament become a Top 5 caliber tournament ? I'm sure its a decent tournament, but Top 5 ? I agree that Raytown South (you said Raytown but I have to assume that you meant Ray South) is a big upgrade and Helias could also be an upgrade (if its the Missouri Duals, not as much if its the Kickoff Classic).
What other tournaments does Ozark compete in ? COC, Holiday, Warrensburg ?

Who does Ray Pec have coming back? They always get so many kids down to state and can't quite put together enough to take the trophy home.
RP-in-Nebraska
08-23-2005, 01:47 PM
Ray-Pec returning varsity starters will be Justin Forrest , Asa Shaffer , Chad Gray , ??? Walker, Kendall Burke, Chad Rosenstangle (sp), and Levi Thompson. Of those, one is a state champ, two medalists, and a qualifier. 2 out of the other three that didn’t qualify are solid wrestlers that are as good as some that did qualify in their weight class. So, 6 very probable medalists returning for Ray-Pec.

Here is my best guess at a 2005-06 Ray-Pec possible line-up. I thought I’d do some research into returning wrestlers, grade level, and accomplishments and this is what I’ve come up with. If this is anywhere close to accurate, it looks like there will be a lot of juniors and sophomores which would suggest that they will be even better next season. My out-of-nowhere guess is that they will probably finish second behind Park Hill again, but it looks like a great team.

Hannibal does have many returning varsity wrestlers this year. The team will be made up mostly of seniors this year, and yes, that includes Andrew Wood. The rumor about him moving was just that - a rumor. His family never had any plans to move, they never would. Wood will be retuning this year to wrestling at 160 and there is a lot of other people moving as well. Cody Selsory may be wrestling at 152 this year and the transfer is from Quincy, Ill. Not sure yet if he'll be on varsity or not, that's something we have to wait and see. Hannibal is full of determined seniors this year. It's going to be interesting to see how many of their guys get to state this year.

4-5. Hannibal, Farmington.
I think this year is going to be extremely close in the top five, but right now PH is just too tough. Eureka, Hannibal, and Farmington all have good kids coming back and should be tough and RP is consistantly tough and have some great kids coming back that should be wrestling at the correct weights instead of being undersized which was the case last year.

It appears that Hannibal's weights have not changed much and a lot of the top senior wrestlers will pretty much stay at the same weights or maybe move up one weight??? It just all depends on how weight managment goes in the weeks to come. Rumor has it that beginning next year with the 2006-2007 season the weight game is going to come to a hault. Ask the High School Coaches about the MSHAA meeting they attended recently. According to the change approved by the NFHS wrestling rules committee, each state association shall develop and utilize a weight management program that includes 1) hydration testing with a specific gravity not to exceed 1.025 which immediately precedes the body fat assessment, 2) a minimum weight class will be determined by a body fat assessement and 3) a program to monitor an average weight loss of 1.5% a week with descent may use the minium weight determined by the body testing as the lowest weight class a wrestler may wrestle during the year. To sum it up rules will state that wrestlers cannot loose a bunch of weight within a short period of time in order to wrestle a certain weight, it just isn't healthy.

To sum it up rules will state that wrestlers cannot loose a bunch of weight within a short period of time in order to wrestle a certain weight, it just isn't healthy.
That's crap.......I used to cut a ton of weight all the time. I lost 7 lbs in 3 hours once to make weight (when I was already 5% bf). It never affected me. Just look at me now....

The mystery transfer is Carl Sandercock who transfered from Quincy, IL. He is another Purler wrestler from Hannibal. He will definately be an asset to the program. As far as the 125 spot, I wouldn't say that Jake Stamp will be at that weight. I heard that he is smaller than that. There are a few other in-comming freshman that are darn good wrestlers that could fill some of those lower weights. Let's face it Hannibal will be stacked at all weights, because their whole team is sparring for that Varsity spot at each weight class. Good Luck to all the wrestlers and each wrestler will keep the other wrestler on their toes and in turn will keep Hannibal at the top of the rankings.

There's no way Hannibal has the guns to compete for the title. Rumor has it that transfer lost to the Park kid at 12 last year and now he's slotted as a "big gun" at 135?? They've still got a long way to go to catch PH and RP.

Greg, youre right SCW might be a little too high. they did lose 4 or 5 solid guys to graduation that i didnt consider. and for some reason i was thinking that the older hewitt was a junior
I believe SCW only had 2 seniors last year and qualified 10 or 11 kids to state. There were two Hewitts at state, one of them was a senior.

Farmington line-up is gonna be like this
103- Bradley Wisdom
112- Brandon Wisdom
119- Joey Newland
125- Craig Wilson
130- Nick Hoehn
135- Justin Hill
140- Mike Zaricor
145- Scott Kaligain
152- Waylon Gonz
160- Kelly Burch
171- Kendall May
189- not for sure yet
215- Jake Hise
HWT- Tyler Epstein
From what i have seen this will be the line up for farmington and i see 4 or 5 state champs with both wisdoms, newland, wilson, and zaricor also 4 or 5 placers with Hill, Hoehn, Hise, Eptstein, and maybe Kaligain and some qualifiers with May, Gonz so farmington lookin tuff for a state title
I do think Farmington is a contender for a top four finish, however I think "four or five" state champs is a bit optimistic considering what the other Class 3 powers have. That being said, Farmington should be right up there and I do think they have five kids that have the potential for top three or above finishes.

farmington will have atleast 4 state champs with newland and wilson ranked 24 in the nation and lil wisdom has to get past the lester boy and after a year of high school wrestlin at farmington i think he will have the potential then brandon wisdom he might have been out for a year but right now he is better than he has ever been and look what he did his freshman year then zaricor his senior year he has to motavation and disire to take state this year....then you have what hoehn fresman who placed 6th he will place higher and epstein at HWT it may be a big jump for him but i see it epstein is to quit and strong for the other heavy weight kids he should look to be a big part for farmington then you have then you have a couple of ppl who have stepped up alot in the wrestlin room hill, hise, kaligain all of those who say farmington doesnt stand a chance better think again
LOL Farm-Town I think you are going out a bit on a limb there saying Farmington "will" have four state champs. Is it possible, absolutely as all of those kids are great wrestlers, however "will win" is a pretty strong statement. I would agree Newland and Wilson are probably favorites, although at this point I don't think anyone knows who exactly will be in what weight class so who knows. 112 is going to be very tough and deep so I do not believe anyone is going to be a prohibitive favorite in that weight class. If I had a gun to my head I would say Donte Butler is the favorite at 112, but there are two or three other kids that are right there with him and three or four more that are within striking distance. I will leave your other statements alone as I probably have a bias LOL. Bradley by the way won't have to try to get past any Lester boys at 103 because there won't be any there. Nick has grown too much and will be at 112. Matt will be at 119. This is not particularly where they wanted to be and will make it tough for both of them, however I would rather have them maintain their grades and health rather than rack up wins in wrestling.

I think Farmington should change their mascot to the ScarletKnights instead of the BlackKnights.

Farm Town,
Nobody, to my knowledge, has said that Farmington doesn't have a chance. They have a very good chance. However, to say that Farmington will have at least 4 state champs is a very bold statement and that's why you are catching a little flack. They will certainly be in the top 5 this year at state, but catching a team like Park Hill with 3 returning state champs and 2 returning runner-ups will be a difficult task.

You have it all wrong Farm Town, the Knights will have at least FIVE champs! PH can't stay out of trouble, RP doesn't match up, Hannibal?-when's the last time they won a state title? Bring on whoever else you like, the Knights will ride again!

PH can't stay out of trouble,
Meaning they frequently get caught in a near-side cradle?
Or, they get busted at school for talking during study hall?
Or, they are under 18 and like to chew tobacco?
