Anyone who supplies the rankings want to discuss this? I know Yust is a great wrestler, but Huck is roughly 34-0 and has been ranked first all year. Just trying to grasp why he dropped.

I don't supply any rankings but what's there to discuss?
Yust is a TWO TIMER going for a third....I would only assume he hasn't been #1 all season because he's been out with injury. Thus, he starts wrestling and doesn't lose, being a two - timer I'm guessing he gets a free pass to the top.
I don't know the kid but I'd say he deserves that much until he gets beat.
Has Huck won a state title? Get over it, it's a RANKING!!!
Maybe since Yust is returning multi state champ?
Maybe we can make this into the Wolk vs. Moore matchup like last year. Will they meet up before state?

Yust has the benefit of the doubt of not only being a 2 x state champ; but I would probably say he has a better career win % as well. Until the Yust and Huck meet, you have to go with the returning champ, the King of hill, the Bull of the Woods.....Until he is beaten.

Yust should rank number 1 even though Huck is unbeaten at 34-0. Unfortunately, Yust and Huck will not meet until the semi's or finals of state if all goes as predicted. Hopefully, it will be in the finals as this will be a good match to watch.

I'm well aware of Yust being a two-timer, but thanks for pointing that out 3 times. What weight was he last season? 140? 145? 152? I just don't know that's all about him getting the nod. We shall see.

I remember getting my foot shoved in my mouth over that... I no longer complain.

Hey dwolk!! Where you been hiding? I haven't seen you around in almost a year. Come by more often and say hi.
The foot wasn't that far in the mouth. I could still see your laces. :)

Lets see...............If Yust wrestled 145 and won state last year and is ranked #1 at 171 and beat all his apponents thus far..........just maybe that would give more proof as to why he is ranked above Huck. Who knows what Joe will be up to next. This should be a very intersting senior year. Joe, take it one match at a time and good luck at the Seneca tourny this weekend!

And what has Huck done at the state level? Serious question, not being a smarta$$.
Either way, I'm sure Yust doesn't care where you rank him. Being a two-timer I'm sure he understands what rankings are all about. The great thing is we will know the answer in about a month.

cardsfsc,
You are right in saying Yust probably does not care. I believe if you are a great wrestler your ranking does not matter. In fact, high ranking just brings unwanted and often unjust nitpicking scrutiny.

Haynes from OP has gone from 145 to 171 and done juuuust fine. There's no doubt in my mind he's the best 171 lbr in the state, regardless of where he was last year. I think Yust will be "ok". I just hope he and his teammates decide not to wear the "stars and bars" hats at state again...

Yust beat Winckel at Branson 8-7....
Winckel WBF over Henson of Platte County at Branson
Winckel WBF over Huck of Ste:Gen at SEMO Conference
Yust is clearly the favorite at class 2 171lbs........

Thanks Tripod for the update! I think the case has been settled for now. Yust is clearly number #1. Hopefully, everything will shape out and that Yust will meet Huck in the finals at state.

I believe that Yust just dropped to 160.

Yust wrestled 160 at Seneca this weekend, looked good. He was wrestling for first but I don't know the outcome (left early).

Winkle may have pinned Huck, but Huck was winning before the "fluke" throw. You can't stop something like that. I believe that Winkle should have beat Yust as well. A few "questionable" calls and Yust had the match. A little odd to me. But, since Yust dropped to 60, Huck will have no problem taking the tiitle this year. And Yust will have no problem at 60. Would have been a good match to see though.

I know both wrestlers very well and Jason is a VERY GOOD thrower. No fluke. Taylor put himself in a bad position and Jason being the good wrestler that he is, took advantage and won the match.

Sorry, shouldn't have use dthe word fluke. But, it seemed that Huck was the better wrestler and that he did put himself in a bad position, and you can't do that with someone like winkle. But, i also saw the yust, winkle match, and i thought that winkle was the better wrestler out of those two. If yust and winkle were to wrestle again, i believe that winkle would win. But, they should all have a spectacular time at state. dont be surprised if they all 3 come back champions.

How did the Winckel wrestle against Joe Henson from PC? I know he pinned him in the semis of the Branson tournament but how was the match going before the pin?
Bruce Winckel
01-25-2006, 05:47 AM
Hannibal , 2-2 at the end of the 1st . Henson chose bottom Jason turned him for the pin.
thfan, saying that Winckel was the better wrestler against Yust is quite possibly one of the craziest things i've ever heard. Yust is a 2x state champion and has won like 105 straight matches. Thanks for the kind words but Joe Yust is as good as they get. Beating him would be a huge task.

i didn't mean that he was the better wrestler overall. but, in that match, the way that they were both wrestling, it seemed to me that winkle was the better wrestler. i thought that he should have won that match. tough loss, he wrestled a hell of a match though.

Should have.........would have........could have..........The "if only" of life. Regardless if you call it luck, skill or stregth the better wrestler is the victor.

Disagree.. I've seen matches where a kid is dominating and winning by 10-14 points and somehow ends up on his back and gets pinned.. You cant convince me the better wrestler wins those kind of matches... not saying Winckel should have beat Yust, Huck should have beat Winckel, Deron Winn should have beat Hercules (since apparently Winn is so good no one can touch him), etc... but I think there are many times when the better wrestler loses.

Deron Winn should have beat Hercules.....
I saw that match. It was close but Herc pulled off the upset.
