View Full Version : Best wrestlers on their feet last 25 years non state champs

The best wrestler on the feet post seemed to to be really biased towards sate champs and rightfully so. For the most part state champs are better on their feet. However, who were the best non state champs.

I am biased towards Helias so I will throw some names out first:

Jeremy Loethen
Jake Wadley
Rob McCurren
Mark Lock

Non Helias:

Rob Gardner (Warrensburg)
McCormick (St Clair)
Caswell (Fulton)
Fowler (Han) I can't remember if he won state his SR year or not.

Mike Zucharello from Pacific. Holds Pacifics takedown records. 163 in a season. 403 in career. Placed 6th three times, always seemed to get some sort of injury before or during state.

oooh, Merrick Meyer is a good one. Hard to believe you can take 3rd as a freshman and not ever win a state title, but he was a takedown machine.

I'm sure no one here has ever heard of him but there was this kid from Union named Steve Weatherly ('91-'95, 103-125) that was obscenely good on his feet. Funny thing is, he beat the likes of freshman Charlie Rallo (convincingly), Kevin Bonebrake ('94 state finalist from Rolla), and a laundry list of other state medalists but was always hurt right before State. What a shame, though, he was probably the best 3A 119'er up until he snapped a rib before districts in '94.

Then, he lost to Pat Jansen as a Senior.

He won state in 1999. His footwork wasn't too impressive in the state finals in 1998.

Kelly Thomas from St. charles took Demarius Thomas down to his back, I think in their state match. But after the first period, Kelly pretty much just had to hang on.

I always forget about kelly, because he was so poorly conditioned and placed 3rd twice, but I think he always got the first takedown. He had amazing strengh for a guy who was fairly lanky. If he got his fishhooks behind your knees, you were going down.

David Crinagin
Patrick Pearson
Jimmy Spake David Keene and Danny Alnutt Richmond kids
Rusty Foster
Morgan Simpson
Dale Wilhite
DJ Smitz

Vince Moehle wasn't the takedown artist the others were, but his physical nature helped him along. He had that farm boy mentality too. :-D

The Jackson Kids Eric coached and I couldn't remember all of their names, but coach Wachter does a heck of a job with them too

See......you remember better than I do. The plaque that I got Sat. Said that there were 4 state champions out of the little league that we started at Richmond. Scott Hamilton, Eric Pierson, Rusty Foster, Morgan Simpson were four that were in the first little league group. But I wasn't sure about the others.......25 years has been along time......and the names get blurry from time to time. But that's why we have you there Fudge.

Maybe you could enlighten me on the "Lexington's Most Wanted" list. I been around for a while and I've never heard of it.

So, which of the former CMSU Wrestlers that are high coaches did you say was your high school coach? Barbarick -ray-pec; Mayabb - Oak Park; Offield - Odessa; Knapp- Winnetonka; Steverner - Hazaelwood Central; Stockdale - Knob Knoster; Griem - Excelsoir Springs; Griffith - Parkway South; Erneste - Park Hill; or Hammer - Liberty?

This is a great web site and a lot of coaches and athletes follow it. However, it seems lately that it's heading towards a place with too much BS and running good people away from posting.

Those are the only coaches that CMSU official media guide for 2005-2006 lists as coaches. Is your old coach still in coaching!

I don't keep up with these stats from Lexington! You better not let Steve Dunkle find out you put him on this list! I don't think he be too pleased.

Don't get me me wrong! I not pointing the finger at you, but, during the course of the last week I been told of several high school coaches that don't post to these forums anymore, due to bad jokes or inappropriate comments towards them or their program. Most likely from kids that couldn't measure up when they wre in school or folks taking the High School "Rival" thing to far, under the cloke of user names.

This is a great vehicle for Missouri Wrestling and I wouldn't want it to turn into a fool's forum were true fans and coaches can interact. People have told me as recently as this weekend that they won't post because of the types of regular response that are posted in a mean or hateful manner.
