little league is very important to high school wrestling because the little league feeds experienced wrestlers to the high schools, so who do you think has the best little league program in the state.

well in my opinion, it would have to be either Oak Park's little league, or the JagWarriors in arnold. because that little league programs has kids that go to Fox, Northwest, and Seckman. those are three great wrestling teams, so i think it is hard to pick out of those two.
Don't forget Bonhomme. They win the little league state title as often as the Competitors and more often than the Jag Warriors.

Ditto on Bonhomme. Whereas Competitors', Oak Park's and Fox' programs feed only one or two high schools, Bonhomme's "graduates" go on to Eureka, Lafayette, Marquette, Parkway schools, St. Charles county schools and private high schools. If all of last year's 8th graders from Bonhomme were at one high school alone, the lineup would include:
Lester twins
Banning
Olejnik
Bolin
Houdashelt
Mango
Seubert
Not too many other clubs can put together a list of this magnitude from their 8th graders year after year as Bonhomme does. And, factor in all former Bonhomme wrestlers now in high school and the list is even more impressive.

i agree. thats where it all starts, is little league, then it has to do with the highschool coaches.
I think that is an insightful comment about Francis Howell Central wrestling. I have been very impressed with the direction of both their little league and high school programs.

If your going to talk about all time teams from little league programs how about Northland Nighthawks which broke apart into Park Hill, Competitors, Winnetonka and others.

I know at Dale Ewings funeral there was a list of all the H.S. state champs that wrestled for Northland Mat Rats/Nighthawks. Pretty amazing group of kids.

I can't believe no one mentioned the Purler camp. My sources on the ground there said that they are really good.

Purler isn't really a little league program...they're kind of a camp/training school, as in they don't compete in AAU/USA tournaments like most programs do. They do compete at Tulsa Nationals as a team though, but that's the only one that I know of.

Smith,
You must know SCBC dominated in the 80's and a good portion of the 90's, back in those days Excelsior Springs and St. Joe "Metro" seemed to be the best teams from the West side of the state.
SCBC Alumni who went on to win State.

Things went downhill for the SCBC when they were forced to change to SCBC @ GC. Dave Roberts retired and the club splintered.

The years run together for me. Let me clarify my statement then by saying the late 80's and early 90's.

I would never count out Zumwalt North Little League either. For years this club has fed Zumwalt North & Zumwalt West and Wentzville. The Wolfrum boys,Gagliano, Espey, Wright, and lots of other have all come from there. This year there has been several new Coaching faces there. Hickey is Coaching as well as the Ditter Brothers. Al Hovis is still there training the little one who are new to the program and might I say he has the patience of a saint. This club is young this year but it will grow to be a major competitor in the next 3 to 4 years. As these young kids get older.
I have to agree that right now I do think the Competitors is the team to beat!!

I can't let this conversation go on without a mention of the Longview Lions!!!!! We had some fairly salty wrestlers in the 80's & early 90's as well. We never had the overall number of kids that Northland and SCBC has, but we could compete with anyone with a number of individuals like:
Ryan Gardner*
Micah Gardner*
Josh Krall
Stevie Schneider
Mikey Schneider**
Tim Pannell*
Billy Tapp
Todd Dando
Jimmy Brewer*
Brad Andes
Charles Welch
Spencer Davis
Lee Gatlin*
Kevin Gatlin*
and in later years:
Chris Maggard*
Lee Watkins**
* = State Champion
I remember one year we had 15 finalists in the LL state tournament and won 12 of them (finishing 1st & 2nd in one 32 man bracket), and STILL finished 2nd to SCBC, who "racked" up a ton of team points in 3 man brackets where they would have 2 of the 3 kids in a very heavy weight class. They would wrestlie 2 times and get a 1st & a 2nd place finish!!!! It still gripes me 20 years later!!!!!

You guys always leave out the SW corner of the state:
WXT (Neosho)
Seneca: has won state in thier div before came in second last year
Ozark: sent the second most kids to state last year after Fox.
What about Brookfield up north: they won state last year.
Right now Park hill is the best team in the state bar none. Comp are not as strong as they once were. Bonhomme is weaker than they have been in the past. So as much as it pains me to say it Fox is prob second.

ABC used to feed in the old Days 4 high schools in Pattonville, Ritenour, Berkeley, and Normandy (althought I thinK The Midget Gunners also used to feed Normandy and I was young when Normandy Dropped their Program and I heard that the team that took 2nd in 81 had about 3 of their 5 placers from ABC)....Not to Mention all the BOys that Private Schools got, which was quite a few.

Ted, were the older purler's not in boy's club?
Northco, I'm disappointed in you. You didn't include Rick Cusumano in your list of ABC wrestlers, him and his sister, Deena, wrestled only for ABC back in the late 80's early 90's.

Smith, you do not need to defend anything. Your program was and is the best hands down. Northland Nighthawks. Oh I remember them. We split from them and then what. Keck has held his own at Park Hill. He is a good kid that came in very young and has really done a very nice job there. He will get them back. People do not understand that what you sacrifice for the love of each and everyone of these kids and the sport.????? No rewards except self satisfaction, but always more for the kids and what you did to help this snot nose (@@@@@@) when he first stepped on the mat and where he is now. Putting up with the weekly grind from parents of why is my kid not winning or you should have took up not down. You know Johnny can't escape. Sorry, that is why we work through the week and try it on Sat. or Sun. or both. Anyone who takes the time to work with these kids is a winner to me. Ask them to coach
