I just got what I consider bad news from a fairly reliable source.
Looks like Tulsa Union will noy be competing at the Branson Tournament this year. I talked to one of the coaches earlier today and he said that they were not attending.
They brought some depth to an already tough tournament.
At 130 defending state champ Jamal Parks. Parks lost to eventual Class 2 State Champ Lankford, Senaca in the finals here last year. This year he would have matched up with another state champion St Louis from PC.
At 140 state champ, 2x state finalist, and Cadet FS AA Seth Vernon was there. Vernon was a recent transfer from Broken Arrow HS so he didn't compete thier last year. Vernon would have competed against ranked MO grapplers Wittenmyer- PC ,Stephens- Branson, and Stevenson- Joplin. I don't know if Pickering, NIxa is ranked but he's tough too.
Union also had a ranked wrestler at 112. Which would have been a loaded bracket with ranked MO grapplers Burns- PC, Burkhart- Seneca, Hairiston- Branson, Sanderson- Carthage and Llyod of Joplin.
I think thier other ranked guys was at 145 which is also loaded with ranked kids. Fowler- PC, Landes- CJ, Hatfield- Seneca, Shirley-Nixa, Heaton-Smith Cotton, and Guernsey-Joplin.
Would have been nice to see how some of our better talent did against some of the top OK guys. I know Parks and Vernon are both currently ranked#1 in OK Class 5A.

Well, You are right Tulsa Union did drop out of the Branson Tourney, But I still think that the Branson Tourney is one of the Hardest in SW Mo if not all of Mo There is some amazing teams there and this is were some future state champs see tough competition. Tulsa did add that last pinch of difficulty but this weekend will a day for great wrestling never the less.

swmofan-
You are correct. Tulsa Union will not be there.
We will be looking for another top team for next year. We were informed too late for this year. Miscommunication.
15 teams. 4 pools of 4 with winners of each pool going for 1st through 4th and runner up of pools going for 5th through 8th. We will fill some slots with JV kids.
Weigh-ins at 7:30 and wrestling at 9:30.
Coaches are FAX and e-mailing line-ups in today.

Even without TU the tournament is a good class of Wrestlers.
I know from looking that the 189lb div has quite a few ranked
wrestlers.

Bruce - how did Jason do? Any other Northco medalists?

Jason took 2nd place. He lost to Yust from Seneca in the finals in a very tight match. Don't remember the score.

Jason lost to Yust in the finals 8-7.
Cody Compton lost to Tyler St.Louis 2-1 also in the finals.

Compton's match against St.Louis comes down to the official awarding two with 7seconds left when there was clearly no control.Which I may add was confirmed by other officials that saw the match. Not a bad match for an unranked freshman against a state champ.

I have to disagree with your comment about there not being a takedown. According to the rules interpretation, it should have been a takedown. St. Louis was behind both arms, with Comptons weight on both of his hands. I don't care for the rule, but that is the interpretation. At one point, St. Louis also put in the funky leg for a second. It was ugly looking, but I have to agree with the official's call, because of the rules interpretation.

Did Henson and Yust wrestle???
also at 152 did mortek(branson) wrestle Plowman(PC) if so what were the scores of the two matches??

Henson was beaten by Winkel in the semis, so Yust did not see Henson. Not sure about Mrotek and Plowman. Mrotek defaulted out his last two matches.

I just didn't want Jackson to get credit for beating someone that he didn't actually beat. By the way our refs for districts at Ozark are:
Jeff Robbins
Mark Devore
Dusty Webb
David Dade
Sean Price (I had him last night against Joplin and he did a good job. He is new to MO, but has 15 years of experience in Kansas)

To answer your question about Snead from North County. His only other loss was to Detelich from Glendale. The score was 11-4.
