I have always been told that it was against high school rules to shake the opposing coach's hand. I canont find it anywhere in the wrestling rulebook stating that it is against the rules nor that it should be done. What are others thoughts and opinions on this topic? Should the wrestlers shake the other team's coaches hands after the match? What harm does it do if they don't? What is the benefit? :?:

Yes I believe you should shake the coaches hand after a match just to show respect. Wrestlers also shake the hands of each ref in international competition.

It's required on my team. If a wrestler doesn't, he and I have a go at the next practice.

I also make it a requirement that they shake the wrestlers, coaches and sometimes they forget this one, but also the referee's hand after each match.

hwtchamp-let me guess you don't let your wrestlers shake the other coaches hand...you probably have a kids club and don't let your 6 yr olds shake the coaches hands either...

55kg...let me guess, you're a first year high school wrestling coach who teaches detention and misses practice all the time to wrestle yourself! Take vacations and miss holiday practice. Then you wonder why your kids don't make grades!

Let me guess you're going to hide behind a screen name when you talk cyber trash? Yes I coach a youth wrestling club and it's up to my wrestlers if they want to shake the other coach’s hand. Just like they left it open in the rule book. I have learned since posting this that there are a lot of emotional opinions about this subject. I also have learned that high school wrestlers don't shake hands at the high school level during duals but they do during tournaments. I was only asking because I don't want to coach a youth club like a dinosaur!

I am not talking trash hwtchamp, I didn't mean to offend you...but obviously you got upset after i said you probably don't let your 6 yr old wrestlers shake the coaches hands.

And actually I graduated from highschool 2 years ago, and no I do not coach. I just follow my previous school a lot.

Two years ago, MSHSAA Coaches voted to disallow wrestlers to shake the opposing coaches hands after a bout, to reduce distrractions as a coach prepares his next wrestler for competition. It also prevents taunting at such time.
